Terry Landreth Letter to
Editor on Herald Coverage of
Wiseburn Schools
This is the second time I have noticed that
someone has complained about news coverage
of schools in El Segundo that are not in
ESUSD (Terry Landreth Oct 11). Some time
ago, the complaint was about the Vistamar
School and because it was a private school
that may take students and their funding away
from ES High. Nonetheless, I appreciate
the Herald trying to give appropriate news
coverage to these varied schools, particularly
because it is usually positive or good news.
It is newsworthy to know that a Wiseburn
High School was built on Douglas and
be aware that there would be some traffic
impacts from increased traffic and pedestrian
travel walking back to Hawthorne. And it
is informative to hear about the initiatives
for improved education they are trying. I
seriously doubt that an article about the new
Wiseburn High School, which is inside El
Segundo city limits, is going to cause large
numbers of families to move their kids from
ESUSD to Wiseburn. And I hope we can all
cope with a positive article or two about St.
Anthony’s and any other schools or educational
alternatives available in El Segundo that are
not in ESUSD. It is the right of people to
select the best educational alternative for
their children and I hope Mr. Landreth can
come to terms with the fact that some may
choose differently from him and that it is
their right to do so.

Obituaries
Beverly D. Moessl
Beverly D. Moessl (85) passed
away peacefully on October 11,
2018 in Thousand Oaks, CA.
Beverly was born in St. Cloud,
Minnesota in 1933 and resided in
El Segundo for 60 years. She was
a loving and caring wife, mother
and grandmother. She will be
forever fondly remembered as a
calming force by her family and
many dear friends, some of which
she met over the years while
working at Taylor’s Pharmacy
in El Segundo.
Beverly is predeceased by her
loving husband Julius Moessl
and survived by her son Michael
Moessl (Harry Grauman) of
Thousand Oaks, CA, daughter
Linda (Robert) Schaeffer of
Plymouth, MI and grandchildren
Michael (Melissa) Schaeffer
of Fenton, MI and Matthew
Schaeffer of Peoria, IL.
Mina Joan (Ball) Tennyson
May 26, 1935 - August 25, 2018
Mina was born and raised in
El Segundo, CA, attending both
grade school and high school in
her hometown. Upon graduation
from high school, she attended
UCLA, where she graduated with
honors, earning her bachelors
degree in three and a half years.
It had always been a dream of
hers to fly for the airlines and
she was accepted for stewardess
training with United Airlines.
She was then domiciled in San Francisco
where she met her husband to be. The couple
settled in San Mateo, where they raised two
boys, followed by 20 years of working by
her husband’s side in his practice of Pediatric
Dentistry. Following her husband’s retirement,
the couple enjoyed many exhilarating
years of world travel, her
greatest “coup” being their trip
to London on the “Concorde”.
Mina is survived by her loving
husband of 59 years, Roger;
her two sons, John and Scott
(Pamela); and her only granddaughter
of which she was so
proud, Shae.
A memorial service will be
held at St. Mathews Episcopal
Church in San Mateo at 4pm on October
17th. Interment will be private. In lieu of
flowers, a donation to Mission Hospice and
Home Care (attention Hospice House) in her
name is suggested. The family is extremely
grateful for their care. •
