of the Redondo Tournament. They backed
that up with a 20-25, 26-28, 25-17, 25-22,
15-13 win over the Vikings in a key Ocean
League matchup.
El Segundo will most likely advance to
the CIF Southern Section playoffs, but will
have a daunting task. The Eagles’ success
over the past few seasons has landed them in
Division 1. Their three losses this season have
come to Division 2 top-ranked Lakewood,
second-ranked Division 1 South Torrance
and sixth-ranked Palos Verdes.
The Eagles will host Beverly Hills today
at 3:15 p.m. and Lawndale next Tuesday at
3:15 p.m. to wrap up their regular season
home schedule.
Lacrosse Teams Looking Good
The boys lacrosse team has played a grueling
schedule that has included powerhouse
Benny Casillas tags out Culver City’s Joaquin Hines on a steal attempt. Run for Education set for this Saturday.

teams such as St. John Bosco, Palisades, Mira
Costa and Valencia. The Eagles’ recent 12-7
win over Culver City could be the stepping
stone to a playoff berth. Trailing by three
goals at halftime, Lucas Roscoe led the rally
by scoring four second half goals for the
come-from-behind win.
The Eagles had two matches at home this
week before going on the road Friday night
at 7 p.m. at Downey.
The girls lacrosse team is playing in arguably
one of the top leagues around. The Eagles
face Mira Costa, Palos Verdes, Redondo and
Peninsula in the Bay League. So, with a team
that has just one senior on the roster, how
are the Eagles doing so far? They are 9-4
overall and averaging 12 goals per game.
Jaime Christian lends her senior leadership
to a team that has been developing quickly.
Sophomore sensation Morgan Wood leads
the team in scoring, while freshman Beth
Stephens and junior Arianna Rendon have
played well in goal.
The Eagles host Downey on Friday at 3 p.m.
and Beverly Hills next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Run For Education Saturday
The 27th annual El Segundo PTA/Council
Run for Education is set for Saturday at
8 a.m. This is a great time to be with family
and friends and at the same time help support
El Segundo schools that benefit from
this event.
Get there early and enjoy special exhibits,
classes and booths of the sponsors
-- including the title sponsor Big 5 Sporting
Goods as well as Kind Bars and Sketchers.
Big 5 will be handing out coupons for
summer camping, sports or other summer
merchandise, as well as gift cards for of up
to $75 for the winners.
The 5K Run/Walk is an easy-to-moderate
course that features a few small hills through
local neighborhoods as residents cheer on the
runners. The 10K run offers a second loop
of the same course. There are, as always,
two Kids Fun runs – a 1K for kids under 10
and 0.5K for kids under 6 years of age. All
5K and 10K participants will receive special
commemorative finisher medals, as will the
kids in the fun runs.
There is still time to register online for the
race at www.esrun 4education.com. Early
packet pickup for those who have registered
online or want to register in person is available
today (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) and tomorrow (11
a.m. to 7 p.m.) at the El Segundo Athletic
Club, 505 Main St. •
