Last Friday, the City of El Segundo hosted
the “1st Annual Civic Day” to provide “future
leaders immersive learning in public service.”
The event was a joint effort by the City and El
Segundo High School to teach senior students
the function and impact of local government.

by City Manager Greg Carpenter, students
partnered with El Segundo City Council
members, department heads and police and

about the Council, strategic planning goals,
the upcoming election and what campaigns
entail. Department heads also shared their
responsibilities and job requirements.
Friday’s program, “Shadow Day,” was
the first of two parts to Civic Day. Part
Two, “Mock Day,” will take place on May
23 and will allow students to hold a mock
council meeting.
