The Greys celebrated their Pee-Wee 5-4 overtime win
South Bay’s top teams. Aiden McRoberts
started for the Eagles and pitched well
enough to win but fell victim to a defense
that failed him. McRoberts gave up all five
runs (unearned) and struck out seven. Lloyd
Sapanza threw in relief and struck out six
in three innings. Cooper Stolnack’s second
inning single prevented the Eagle’s from
being no-hit.
In the double-header against Palos Verdes the
Eagles and Sea Kings split their games with
El Segundo winning the opener 3-2 in eight
innings and dropping the nightcap 5-0. In the
first game runs were at a premium with both
starting pitchers limiting base runners. Eagle
starter Jake Stolnack gave up two unearned
runs and scattered seven hits through seven
innings. Sea King starting pitcher Ryan Anderson
pitched seven innings giving up two
runs on five hits.
The Sea Kings broke through the scoreless
game in the fifth inning with an RBI double
by Daniel Johnson. Ryan Roche’s RBI single
in the seventh inning padded the lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the seventh trailing 2-0 the
Eagles tied the game. Cooper Stolnack was
hit by a pitch, Jose Hurtado singled and Rafael
Smith’s single loaded the bases. Conrad
Bernstein’s two-run single tied the game at
2-2 sending the game into extra innings. In
the bottom of the eighth inning, with one
out, Julian Rodriquez doubled off the leftfield
fence. Ken Chung was intentionally walked
and Cooper Stolnack singled in Rodriquez
for the walk off winning run that sent the
team and hometown fans into a delirious
celebration.
In the second game the Eagles were limited
to just four hits including Evan Smith who was
2-for-3 and Nick Villa and Julian Rodriquez
who each had singles.
