The End is In Sight
I’ve always tried my best to be transparent
in my writing of this column and in my city
clerk’s duties. I like to “tell it like it is” and
be “real” and be straight forward and not
beat around the bush and not be a “typical
politician” that tells you half truths or fake
news to get you to think that I’m the one
to vote for in the next election. So, here we
go. Rather than conduct a news conference at
City Hall, I will break the news to my loyal
readers first through this outlet: I will not
be seeking re-election this coming fall. In
fact I won’t be living in Hawthorne this fall.
As you know, I’m concluding my
teaching career in June and will be
retiring. Our love for our family has
led me and my ol’ lady to decide
to purchase a “retirement home” in
Orangevale, CA, which is located
20 miles Northeast of Sacramento.
Our daughter, son-in-law, and our
two grandchildren moved to that area last
summer. So, it is the love of being there for
the grand kiddos and watching them grow up
that has trumped my love for you my dear
reader/friends and my love for Hawthorne. I
have enjoyed writing this column and sharing
my wit and nonwisdom with you the past
eight years. All good or bad or stupid things
have to come to an end sometime. Maybe the
newspaper will let me continue to ramble on
even in my physical absence from this local.
It will be hard to replace me since I have no
idea what I’m trying to say the majority of
the time. No, I’m not leaving or stopping
to write immediately. I just wanted to give
you a heads up, all eight or ten or twelve of
you. Do me a favor, don’t let your tears of
joy or sadness spill into your cold one and
ruin a good brew, just enjoy life. I’ve heard
it said that I should get out while the going
is good, retire at my peak. When I started
out low and sunk even lower, I can see the
writing on the wall, it’s time. Thank you for
allowing me to be part of your life.
Graffiti Removal
If you see graffiti in Hawthorne, call our
hotline: 310-349-1632. Our goal is to remove
any graffiti on public property or assist private
property owners and have it removed with
48 hours of notification. If you see it, report
it and discourage more graffiti from taking
over our city. Let’s keep Hawthorne clean.
National Night of Prayer
The Hawthorne/Lawndale Ministerial Association
invites you to attend their annual
National Day of Prayer Service on Thursday,
May 3 at the South Bay Celebration Assembly
beginning at 7 p.m. The theme for the service
