started two months ago but already feel like
my mind is racing on what the next desert I
need to bake. However, I am so grateful for
this experience. I can’t believe I created this
business and even more in awe of those who
support and appreciate my work! It means so
much more than you guys will ever know!
Getting to make something that will make
someone smile or making an order that will
be gifted to someone is special to me! I get
even more excited when a customer wants
my work to be a part of their special day,
such as proposals, baby showers, milestones,
or a birthday! Whenever I get pictures, I get
emotional! I love doing my baking and my
goal is to keep pursuing it until I pay my
way through medical school and become a
physician! I am confident that it will shape
me into a responsible young adult ready to
take in like and my future goals! It for sure
teaches me a variety of qualities and skills
that will come in handy later in my journey.
Q: What piece of advice would you give
to those who are starting?
A: To those, who are starting, or want
to start, please just do it! Start somewhere,
everyone does. Don’t compare your progress,
have fun, and enjoy practicing your hobby/
passion. There are no set of rules or anything,
hence, do it your way and take the first step.
After, everything will flow!
I was scared once, mostly the fear of failing
and not receiving orders. Now I look back, I
wish I would have started earlier. These two
months have been nothing but positivity and
glad I decided to create @sweetsbycarla. If

My Thoughts
As I said before, I’ve been seeing many
young adults my age building their own
businesses and doing the most to receive
exposure. As my position as City Clerk Intern
and as someone who loves her Latinx
community, I wanted to do something for
them. I knew writing articles would be a
huge help in not only improving my writing
skills, but it would benefit the owner in
experiencing recognition and a feeling of
self-accomplishment and satisfaction. I feel
like supporting these businesses is an act
of respect. You acknowledge and learn the
tremendous risks and challenges it took in
starting. Not only that, but it is what makes
the community! They give character and it
develops relationships between the customers
and the independent owner. At some point,
it becomes familial. I wish the absolute
best in Carla and her business. She seems
to be triumphing the more I see her on my
social medias! •
