Happy Tails
Bruno is a handsome Pittie who came to
spcaLA South Bay looking for his forever
home. After some weeks of TLC and training,
Bruno was ready to find his Friend for
Life. A young family came in one day and
instantly had a connection with Bruno. After
a meet and greet, it was clear that Bruno
felt the same way about them. Bruno went

Woof! I’m Rocky! I am a fun loving 1
year old male shepherd mix doggo. I love
learning new commands, especially if it
involves treats (I prefer cheese, please). I
would do best in a home with kids 15+ and
one where I am the only pet. Give me all
your love! Adopt me today.

Howdy! My name is Josh. I am an 8

lot to say! I enjoy playing with my string

home with them that day and we have since
received a lovely update about Bruno and
how he is adjusting to his new home, “We
knew immediately that his forever home is
with us. We love him and hope he’ll find his
place in our family soon. I think we’re well
on our way to a great family future. Again,
huge thanks to you and all your staff.” •
Congratulations to Bruno and his new family.

of the Hawthorne Community Fridge quickly
received positive support and feedback … it
motivated local artists and community members
to get involved with donations.”
“Why do you believe the community fridge
became a success?” I ask Brody. He explains,
“there have been many families and individuals
utilizing the Hawthorne Community Fridge.
Even children are learning and showing
compassion and that is what community is all
about”. He shares that it doesn’t matter the
demographics in a person. The whole purpose
of leaving at least one donation to the fridge
will show your performance in advocating to
your community. There is no limit on showing
contribution to the community. Although this
is the beginning of the Hawthorne Community
Fridge, my curiosity sparked for Brody’s
future plans with this project. “What is your
next game plan with this fridge?” I asked
as he responds by saying “the Hawthorne
community continues to grow in support
every single day … however, there are still
opportunities for local restaurants, businesses,
and non-profit organizations to join efforts to
fight food insecurity.” He wants to let all these
businesses and organizations be aware that
there will always be an open invitation for
collaborations as well as coordinating recurring
weekly donations for fresh groceries and
other necessities that the people need.
In closing this interview, I wanted to take
the time and ask him to reflect on his actions
so far with Hawthorne. “Do you believe that
you are changing the community?” He then
confidently responded by saying, “The Hawthorne
Community Fridge is more than just a
fridge. Given the feedback from community
members, this gives an opportunity to help one
another during a pandemic and, thus, create a
space for mutual aid.” He believes that his
initiative in giving Hawthorne a fridge does not
in fact change the community but improves the
community. “What is something that you would
like to say to your supporters”, I ask him. With
joy, he says “The Hawthorne Community Fridge
is open 24/7 and is located in front of Continental
Gourmet Market at 12921 Prairie Avenue.
Congratulations to Continental Gourmet Market
for the upcoming 40th Anniversary!”

My Thoughts
I personally love the idea of a Hawthorne
Community Fridge! Believe it or not, I visited
the fridge to give my own donation of bread,
cheese, water bottles, and other typical groceries
I wanted to show my support to the fridge and
as well as give an example to my little siblings
of how lucky we are to have food access. After
donating food, I reflected and acknowledged
how fortunate most of us are for food security,
shelter, and even a job. As previously mentioned
by Mr. Brody, I believe that this improves the
community rather than changing Hawthorne’s
image. There is always room for improvement
and the Hawthorne Community Fridge is a
prime example of that. I see this is creating a
difference in more social cohesion as well as
promoting equal opportunities for all people.
I hope this project can give the community a
little compassion and encourage their families
and friends to donate. After seeing the fridge,
I strongly feel that this non-profit organization
will continue to grow and bring more creators
like Brody together. •
