It’s Great to Be Back at Lawndale High School
Last week was our first in-person board meeting in over a year and a half, and it was awesome to be back. It was the first of our annual Roadshow Meetings which started at Lawndale High School. The student performances were refreshing to see, they all did great. Next
month will be at Hawthorne High School. Photo courtesy Centinela Valley Union High School District.

near a tree, Liberty advises leaving it be and
keeping watch for a few hours. Often, she
says, the mother squirrel will come down and
collect her baby to be brought back to the
nest. If mom never shows up, you may bring
the squirrel inside in a cardboard box while
you figure out the next steps. No matter the
reason you may bring in a squirrel, contacting
Liberty is a good place to start. Whether it’s
with her or through a reference to another
caregiver, Liberty wants to make sure that
all the squirrels of El Segundo are cared for.
“I feel like there’s so many of them that
need help,” says Liberty, “I just want to give
every animal a chance.” In addition to her
love for squirrels, Liberty says she wants to
show her children that you can help something
that’s small and defenseless and be a helper
to the world at large.
As her network grows and she gains help
from squirrel sitters, Liberty is prepared to
take in as many squirrels as she needs to
keep the population happy and healthy in
the city’s yards and parks. •
