The initiative is just the latest step in Chevron’s
commitment to supporting residents through
this pandemic, after the company matched and
doubled employee and retiree donations to
nonprofits as part of its Humankind program,
raising three million dollars for COVID-19
relief earlier this month.
“Social distancing hasn’t fractured our
communities, it hasn’t stopped people from
caring,” said Chevron Corporate Affairs
Manager Rod Spackman. “It’s inspiring to
see Californians stepping up to the plate to
help each other during this unprecedented
crisis. But it’s also been a struggle, and we’re
still expecting the toughest weeks to be ahead
of us. We are making this donation to help
frontline workers and non-profits get the
immediate assistance they need.”
The initiative is just the latest in the
company’s efforts to support its neighbors
during this pandemic. Chevron, as part of
its Humankind program, also doubled all
qualifying donations made to nonprofit
organizations by its employees and
retirees. The program has already raised 3
million dollars for COVID-19 relief, and
Chevron continues to match donations on
a 1:1 basis. •
and all of his history passed away. Robert Farner
lived for 97 years, most of which were spent in
Vista, CA. He is a distant relative of mine via
marriage. Bog Farner served in the US Marine
Corp, serving his country first in China and
then when World War II broke out in the South
Pacific where he and his comrades were captured
and became POW’s. Bob was tortured and
imprisoned for three and one half years in a
Japanese compound. Both of his arms were
broken. He never lost hope that one day he
would taste freedom. He said the thought of
eating real food again was what kept him going.
Once he was released, he never forgot how
valuable and precious his freedoms were. He
didn’t receive his Purple Heart until many years
later in 2003. After his time in the service, he
continued to help his community by creating
a wild life animal preserve and rescue right in
his large back yard in Vista. Robert Farner is
just one of many Americans who have given of
themselves so that we can live free. Our great
country has been through a lot in our 244 year
history, and we will see our way out of this
mess. It’s the many people like Bob who have
made our country great and we should cherish
the blessings, the liberties, the rights, and the
freedoms that we have as Americans. We are
truly home of the brave and land of the free.
Christian Freedom
A different kind of freedom has given to us
through Christ. He has set us free by his death
and resurrection. We are free from the fear of
death. We are free to live as forgiven and righteous
in God’s eyes. We don’t have to worry
about doing everything perfect, because we
can’t. We don’t have to get tied down by the
Law. It’s because of this freedom we can love
and serve one another. We can rejoice even
in the midst of a dark time. We can celebrate
life by having a cold one. We can even love
our old lady. Our Christian liberties are even
more secure than our civil liberties because
God gives them to us. Wow! We are really
free! We are free indeed. Free to live in this
great big world, our nation, our community
and our family and to love and serve God and
others. Live free my friends.
