Mychal’s from front page
“We are out in the community all the time,
and the food truck is really a way to create
the awareness for this community because it’s
not just about a business—it’s about creating
the awareness that people with developmental
disabilities are capable.”
Along with meaningful partnerships and opportunities,
Lynch has even launched Mychal’s
Printing & Design—a direct to garment and
embroidery business located at 546 N. Oak St.
in Inglewood—that works with several local and
high-level companies and employs a number
of individuals with disabilities.
“The key with both businesses is that this
is not a novelty experience someone is paying
for,” says Lynch.
“You’re not just buying a special needs
cookie or t-shirt—you’re supporting another
local business that’s just as competitive. We
want to compete with everybody else that’s out
there and change society’s perception about it
what it means to live with a disability.”

Mykie’s Bakery is a mobile bakery and coffee catering service run entirely by the adult day program.
Mychal’s has 12 major partners that provide training for students with disabilities at a gradual pace.
International Gardens, that provides job training,”
Lynch shares.
“With the special needs community, it’s an
85% unemployment rate. So when you think
about that, there’s a lot that needs to be done
to empower these individuals and give them
the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
It’s exactly why we started the bakery, too.”
Mykie’s Bakery—an offshoot of Mychal’s
Learning Place—is a mobile bakery and coffee
catering service run entirely by the adult day
program. What started as a simple activity of
making cookies in a regular kitchen has grown
into a thriving food truck business that teaches
valuable skills to everyone involved and helps
break down labels and stereotypes that society
often places on people with disabilities.
“So Mikey, that was my daughter’s nickname,”
“The build out of the commercial bakery
was funded by foundations and individuals,
and with the success of that, we now set up
at Mattel’s headquarters four days a week
with our pop-up service and coffee service.
We also deliver baked goods to SpaceX five
days a week.”
Mychal’s Printing & Design employs a number of individuals with disabilities.
Lynch smiles.
