Joanne Michael shows the Juan de Anza 5th grade students the setup for the “thermal protection challenge”, as they were responsible for creating a way of protecting a brass screw from a lit propane torch, as a simulation of NASA’s upcoming Orion missions.

Boring
I’m going to try to write a boring
article. No references to cold ones,
God, me being stupid, my ol’ lady,
my eleven loyal readers, my family members
getting married and having kids and all that
other ridiculous rubble that rolls on and
on every time that I sit down to type this
weekly testament intended to torture you.
So, here we go. If you think that I’ve been
making this stuff up, you are half right. I
really don’t drink that much beer. To be
honest having one cold one is plenty to
set me off. I do trust God, but do I have
my fears and doubts? You bet I do. Do I
always live the way I write about? No way.
I depend on God’s forgiveness for all of my
shortcomings. Am I stupid? No. Do I like
to act stupid sometimes? Sure. Knowing
I’m free to have fun makes me feel young.
My old lady is three years younger than me
so if she is old, then I must be a really old
geezer or fart. Sorry, I’m supposed to keep
this boring. Oh yes, I do love my dear wife
even after 40 years of living together. I have
a sneaking suspicion that I have more than
eleven readers, maybe 12 or 13. I do love
writing about my family events. When I’ve
been blessed with so much, it’s hard not to
share my joy. There you go, a boring article.
I hope you didn’t fall asleep reading it. No
hidden agenda, no Bible scripture. No nothing.
We need boredom sometimes. Every
day can’t be a holiday. We can’t have a cold
one every night. Life is boring sometimes
and that is good. Just relax, have a warm
one and be bored.
For Life
This is the 47th anniversary of Roe
vs. Wade. Many pregnancies have been
terminated before a child was given
the right to live. These babies had no
choice on whether to be conceived or
to live or die. It is God who creates
life. It is wrong for us to end a life that
God has created. As we have seen for some
time, married couples are choosing not to have
kids. But now there are those who say, no one
should have kids. This is called, “anti-natalism”.
These people believe that populating the earth
is bad for the environment. This is like global
warming to the extreme. The human race should
die off so the planet can return to its natural
state. David Benatar, the author of “Better Never
to Have Been: The Harm of Coming into Existence”,
says that causing someone to suffer
is immoral, so it’s better not to be born at all.
To have a child is to harm that child, according
to this line of thinking. Because of the possibility
of pain, life is not worth living. Taking
it a step further, animals suffer so it would
be better that they be dead also. All of this is
in direct contrast to the God who creates all
things, man and woman, the birds of the air
and the fish of the sea. It is God who knew
us before we were in our mother’s womb. It is
this same God who loved us so much he not
only gives us life here on earth but grants us
eternal life through his Son. Christians know
who creates life. We do all we can to preserve
life at whatever age or stage of life that would
be, from conception to death. That is why many
people this week are “Walking for Life”. They
know the creator of the universe and they walk
for those can’t walk for themselves.
