Parking Problems
One Possible Help
One of the biggest problems in Hawthorne
is street parking, or the lack there of. The
City has been trying for years to come up with
a plan to help eliminate some of the parking
congestion on our local streets. In an effort to
increase the availability of parking in front of
your house and prevent people from blocking the
exit from your house the City will come out
and paint stripes to force people to park in prescribed
parking spots. Mayor Vargas encourages
all homeowners and home renters to apply for
on street parking spaces better known as “TParking”.
A $25 fee and application must be
turned into the Public Works office in City Hall.
You can only apply to have the spaces marked
in front of your property or property you live in.
Note that this is not restricted or reserved parking,
since the street is a public right of way but these
spots are enforceable. Violators can be ticketed.
Rabies Clinic to be
Held This Saturday
The City of Hawthorne will be offering
a Rabies Clinic this Saturday, June 22 from
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the City Hall parking
lot. Vaccinations and micro chipping your
doggie will be offered. City Hall is located
on 122nd Street.
John Baker Memorial Cruise
Night at Fosters Freeze
Calling all Hawthorne High School Alums.
June 22nd is the date set for another Cruise
Night at Fosters Freeze. All of the details
can be found somewhere on Facebook. The
weather should be a little nicer by then. So,
make plans to see your friends and old classmates
on the Blvd.
You are Somebody
You ever feel like you are going through the
motions? You ever look around at everyone else
and say I’m just another Joe Shmoe. You ever
feel pretty worthless? I’m sure we have all felt
like that on at least a couple of occasions. We
wonder if anyone really care about whether we
are here or not. Maybe on a holiday, when everyone
else is celebrating, we feel sorry for ourselves.
There are always going to be people with more
Facebook friends, with nicer cars, better looking,
and those people who seem to be happy all the
time. I’m here to tell you that God doesn’t
make junk. Every life matters. Not just
Black lives, but all lives matter. People
are depending on you to be there for
them. The suicide is not the answer.
No matter where we find our selves in
life, life is worth living. The best thing
we can do for someone who might be
down, is talk with them, spend some
time with them, connect with them. We are
all interconnected. We need each other. Take
time to reach out. Offer your neighbor a cold
one. Get to know them. If we really do love
our neighbors or anyone who comes into our
lives, we will want to respect them enough to
acknowledge them. Hawthorne is made up of
90,000 people living within five square miles,
but still there are people who feel alone. I might
be an idiot, but I am somebody. You might
not think you are special but you are. Now
that we have determined your worthwhileness,
crack open a cold one and celebrate you, just
for the hell of it. If you are reading this and
you have a cold one, count yourself a loyal
reader, count yourself somebody.
Wellness Beer
How many years have I been telling you that
having a cold one is good for you? Now, I see
where the breweries are catching on. They are
brewing “wellness beer”. What in the heck is
wellness beer? It’s beer that is good for you.
If you are an athlete or someone who uses a
lot of physical exertion, you might want to
check out these cold ones that have a limited
amount of alcohol and low in calories. Now
besides the metal release and relaxation that
I’ve been recommending, you now can have
that well-toned body that has been eluding you
all of these years. There really is nothing that
a good cold one can’t fix.
Gone Fishing
Yes, it’s that time of the year. I made my
$50 donation to the State of CA for my 2019
fishing license. We are heading up to Florence
Lake for the 30th straight year of our men
only camping/fishing/drinking and shooting
outing starting this Sunday. So, you won’t see
my ramblings next week. But, I’ll be back in
July. Happy 4th to you, stay safe.
