Suspects Arrested
After Pharmacy Burglary
On Wednesday, July 25 at around 4 a.m.,
a local resident called the El Segundo
Police Department (ESPD) to report a
burglary in progress occurring at a pharmacy
on Grand Avenue. The suspect smashed a
window of the pharmacy and gained entry.
Two suspects were later seen running away
from the business. Minutes later, El Segundo
officers saw a suspicious vehicle occupied
by two males in the area of PCH and El

Suspect in Multiple Theft Cases
Detained by ESPD
On July 29 at approximately 11 a.m.,
Marco Ceja was detained by ESPD officers
near Imperial Highway and Imperial Terminal
after a citizen observed Ceja trying
to open the passenger and toolbox doors
of a Chevrolet pickup truck parked in the
800 block of Eucalyptus Drive. Ceja had
numerous “shaved” keys (frequently used by
auto thieves in order to gain entry into
locked vehicles) from various auto manufacturers
in his pocket. Ceja, who is on
probation for burglary and known to ESPD
officers from numerous recent theft cases,
was riding a green Trek bicycle, which is
believed to be stolen. Ceja’s white Cadillac
Escalade was found parked in the 400 block of
W. Imperial Avenue, and additional burglary
tools were found inside. Ceja was arrested
for various charges, including suspicion
of receiving stolen property. ESPD is attempting
to locate the owner of the bicycle
and any additional evidence of other crimes
Ceja may have attempted and/or committed
while in El Segundo. Ceja has been the
suspect in six El Segundo theft cases this
year alone.

Criminal Poses as Edison
Representative in Scam
ESPD is warning the public about scam
artists that may call you and pretend to be from
Southern California Edison (SCE). The scammers
threaten to shut off the victim’s power
if they do not receive sum of money. On July
21, they called a business in El Segundo and
the victim paid $1,500 out of fear the power
would be shut off. The scammers demanded
payment via a prepaid debit card. These calls
are part of a common scam so prevalent that
SCE has a warning notice on its website.
Red Flags to
Spot Telephone Scams
Scam: Caller demands immediate payment
with the threat of shutting off your utility
service. Fact: SCE never calls customers over
the telephone to collect overdue bills and will
never demand immediate payment with the
threat of service disconnection
Scam: You’re instructed to buy a prepaid debit
card at a store within the next 30-60 minutes
and load it with money. Fact: SCE does not
accept prepaid cards for bill payments.
Scam: Caller claims to be from SCE’s Disconnection
Department. Fact: SCE does not
have a Disconnection Department.
Scam: Caller asks for money in person. Fact:
SCE employees never ask for, or collect, money
out in the field.
Scam: You get a call on a weekend or holiday
about an unpaid bill. Fact: SCE does not conduct
credit transactions on weekends or holidays.
Scam: You’re told a truck with SCE letters
and Service Disconnect is en route to your
home or business, or parked outside. Fact:
SCE does not own or operate vehicles with
Service Disconnection signage.
If you doubt the authenticity of such a phone
call, hang up and call the utility service back
at their published phone number. You can also
call ESPD for help.
