American Legion Team
Will Build on Successful
Summer Schedule
The El Segundo Blues ended their season
by finishing third in their Pacific League
tournament; they finished 2-2. The Blues
defeated Downey 11-5, lost to Long Beach
Wilson 5-4, defeated Downey 9-1, and fell
to Millikan 5-3.
Crew O’Conner slides in safely to score in the 8-run third inning against Torrance
In the first game, the Blues scored five
first-inning runs when Dylan Immel’s tworun
double scored Jack Aguilera and Evan
Smith. Conrad Bernstein’s RBI single made
it 3-0, and Brady Englehardt’s sacrifice fly
ball made it 4-0. Lucas Bonham’s RBI single
extended the lead to 5-0.
Leading 7-3 in the sixth inning, the Blues
scored four runs to stretch their lead to 11-3
and held on for the 11-5 win.
The Blues fell to Long Beach Wilson 5-4
in the second game. Engelhardt started for
the Blues and pitched five strong innings.
Trailing 5-2 in the seventh inning, the Blues
made it close when Bernstein singled, and
Bonham was hit by a pitch. With one out
Engelhardt walked to load the bases, and
Anthony Tremsvary’s fly ball scored Bernstein.
Tucker Stevens’ RBI single made it
5-4, but the Blues’ rally was cut short, and
with it, the game.
The Blues faced Downey in an elimination
game and came away with an easy 9-1
victory. Owen Kirsten went the distance
for the Blues and scattered four hits while
striking out five and was helped with three
double-plays.
Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Jack
Aguilera’s RBI single tied the game, and
Bernstein’s RBI single gave his team the
lead. The Blues opened the game up with a
six-run sixth inning. Jack Stoker hit a threerun
home run, Dylan Immel’s RBI triple,
and Aguilera’s RBI single highlighted the
big inning and gave the Blues a 9-1 win.
The Blues faced Millikan and battled but
came up on the short end of a 5-3 elimination
loss. Millikan took a 4-0 lead after two
innings, but Dylan Immel’s two-out, two-run
single made it 4-2. With the Blues trailing
5-2, Lucas Bonham reached an error in the
sixth inning and scored on an RBI single by
Jonathon Anderson to close the gap to 5-3.
The Blues went in order in the seventh, and
with it, their season came to an end.
It was a successful Legion season, according
to head coach Billy Traber. “The team
made some positive strides, and they got
better. It’s something to build on for
the future.” •

Little League 10-Year-Old
All-Stars Dominating
Section 4 Tournament
El Segundo went through the arduous
District 36 Tournament in the loser’s bracket
after suffering an early tournament loss and
ended up winning it. The team’s confidence
and momentum were at an all-time high to
start the Section 4 Tournament. In the first
game, El Segundo throttled Torrance 10-0 that
included four El Segundo pitchers combining
to toss a no-hitter.
El Segundo took an early lead when Quinn
Buehle singled and scored on a double by
Brody Brooks in the first inning. In the third
inning, El Segundo sent 12 players to the plate
and scored eight runs on nine hits, including
eight in a row. Max Baker and Buehle
each singled and scored on Brooks’ double.
Declan McRoberts had an RBI single, Jaxon
Kalish singled in a run, and Lucas Keldorf
had a two-run double. Baker came up for the
second time in the inning and doubled down
the left-field line scoring two more runs.
Jaxon Kalish started on the mound and
struck out six in 2.1 innings. Declan McRoberts,
Quinn Buehle, and Max Baker combined
to strike out five more and finish off the
no-hitter. The closest Torrance got to a hit
was a sinking line drive to right field that
Buehle caught on a diving catch.
El Segundo faced Del Rey Little League
in their next game and came away with a
13-3 win. In the first inning, Kalish’s tworun
double provided a 2-0 early lead. In the
second inning, Lucas Keldorf singled and
scored on a fielder’s choice by Max Baker.
Leading 5-1 in the fifth inning El Segundo
scored eight runs when they took advantage
of four walks and a hit batter. Baker’s two-run
single made it 9-1, and Kalish, who had
five RBIs, drove in two runs on a single to
left field.
Pitching was dominating for El Segundo
as Brody Brooks, Declan McRoberts, and
Finley Green combined to one hit Del Rey
Little League and struck out eight. The win
sent El Segundo into the finals that were
played on Tuesday night. A win would send
them to the Southern California Little League
State Tournament in Imperial Beach starting
Saturday at 11 a.m.
Logan Meyer singles to right field for an RBI against Del Rey Little League Jaxon Kalish had five hits and seven RBIs in the first two games in the Section 4 Tournament.
