Torrance Police Officers,
Detectives Tie Individuals to Thefts
Crimes Property Detectives recently completed
a near month-long investigation which
involved vehicle burglary, fraudulent credit card
use, and a residential burglary. This lengthy
investigation began with a single vehicle
break-in that occurred on Nov. 30. During the
morning hours, the victim observed a female
suspect removing items from his vehicle –
the stolen property consisted of the victim’s
wallet, credit cards and checks. The victim’s
observations, coupled with a helpful passerby
in the area, armed law enforcement with
much-needed descriptions, a vehicle license
plate and video evidence to start their analysis.
On Dec. 3, patrol officers conducted a
vehicle traffic stop during the early morning
hours. During the investigation, officers discovered
the male driver was in possession of
the same stolen credit cards reported from the
earlier theft. He was subsequently arrested.
Detectives spent hours reviewing surveillance
footage while working with
patrol officers on follow-up investigative
leads. Weeks later the original female suspect,
a Lomita resident, was identified and
arrested on Dec. 21. Investigators and patrol
officers connected her to the initial reported
theft, fraudulent credit card usage at local
gas stations and a McDonald’s, as well as
residential burglary in her own neighborhood.
A follow-up search warrant of her residence
revealed additional evidentiary items.
This case is being investigated by the
Torrance Police Department’s Detective
Division under the command of Captain
Martin Vukotic, Commander of the Special
Operations Bureau.
