Happy Tails
Congratulations to Mamacita and her new family!
Sushi
Mamacita was our rescue that arrived at an
LA county shelter very pregnant and delivered
her four pups later that evening. Sadly, only two
pups – Rocky and his sister Adrian –survived…
but happily, they have found their forever homes.
Once Mamacita was no longer nursing, we were
able to have our veterinarian repair a hernia,
remove a mammary tumor and make certain
that she was in post-pregnancy tip-top shape.
Once she was healed it was time to find her a
great home and boy, did we ever! A longtime
MSFR friend, three-time adopter, volunteer
and foster mom decided she couldn’t part with
Mamacita after having her for several weeks.
So Mamacita, now named Mama Mia (Mia
for short), is living in South Redondo, just a
couple of blocks from the Petco location where
we hold our adoption fairs. Besides her new
mom, Mia also has two senior feline siblings
to keep her busy and we are over the moon
with this adoption. Wishing them many years
of happiness and lots of love! •

“How would you like to be abandoned by
your family after loving them and being a
loyal companion for 10 years? Well, I certainly
was devastated when it happened to me. My
name is Sushi and I was rescued from an
Inland Empire shelter after my family told

“Hi I’m Simone! I learned that if you go
out exploring and you get lost, animal control
will find you, transport you to an LA county
shelter and they’ll call you a stray. That’s
exactly what happened to this 9-month old,
female purebred Miniature Schnauzer and
now I have to find a new home. I thought I
had a potential adopter, but the people must
have changed their minds because no one
ever showed up. At first I was feeling a little
rejected but ta da…the wonderful MSFR folks
rescued me and are taking care of me until
I can find my forever home. I’m a sweet,
petite gal, weighing in at just 9 pounds, but
should weigh about 12 pounds when I’m
full-grown. I’m very playful and enjoy the
company of other dogs immensely. I do have a
bit of separation anxiety and have a tendency
to express my anxiety vocally. While I am
working on controlling this, I have a ways to
go -- so apartment or condo living wouldn’t
the shelter they were moving and couldn’t
take me with them, so they just dumped me.
The shelter folks felt so badly for me that
they gave me a dental, a blood work-up and
then contacted MSFR to ask them if they
could rescue me because they were doubtful
they could find a home for me. A trip to the
MSFR veterinarian, who took x-rays, quickly
revealed that I have an enlarged heart and a
grade 4 heart murmur. I have an appointment
with a cardiologist to have a test and see if
medications would be beneficial to me. I’m
also planning on dropping a couple of pounds
because at my current weight of 24 pounds,
I’m a tad overweight. Luckily, I still get along
and love to play with other dogs and I have
a great temperament. You’d be hard-pressed
to find a sweeter and more affectionate dog
anywhere. Add my stunning good looks with
my black and silver coat and I would be the
perfect dog for you.”

“They call me Rupert and I’m a 4-pound
Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix. I don’t remember
my birthdate, but folks tell me I’m 3-5 years
old. I’m not sure what happened, but I was
found wandering the streets without any
identification (no tags, no collar, no microchip),
still intact (not neutered) and very thin. I could
have been kicked very hard or sustained some
type of injury because my right leg is still
sensitive. That said, I’m still a very friendly
little guy who gets along fine with dogs and
cats! Even with my sensitive leg, I’m very
energetic and need two to three walks a day
to expend that energy and keep me out of
trouble. In addition to working on gaining
a few pounds, I’m in training to learn basic
commands like sit and stay, and how to walk
properly -- like a gentleman -- on a leash.
After all of my training, I love sitting on a
loved one’s lap, being held and just relaxing.
I’m mostly housetrained and would love to
be your best friend and companion.”
