Foundation Golf
Tournam ent
Just a little wind didn’t prevent us from
having a great day of golf out at Industry
Hills Golf Course this past Monday for the
29th Annual Hawthorne Parks Foundation
Golf Tournament. The results are in: Team
Huber: 4th Place, Team Bare Elegance: 3rd
Place, Team Miller: 1st Place and Team HPD:
Last Place. The takeaways: Me and my team
members are working too many hours and
have no time to practice. The strip club guys
were distracted by their employees. Miller
always wins. And the men in blue are better
shots with their guns than their clubs. It
was a fun day and we raised $10K for the
refurbishing of the Hawthorne swimming
pool’s locker rooms.

The Hawthorne/Lawndale Ministerial
Association invites you to
attend their annual National Day of

Bitt ers weet, Mixed Emotions
or Just Enjo ying th e Final
Str etch ?
A friend asked me if my final days of
teaching were bittersweet? I think anyone
who has worked at a career for any length
of time goes through a period of mixed
emotions. I really have enjoyed my time in
the classroom. I look back at how much the
kids have given back to me. They have kept
me young, at least I feel younger than my
looks. Yes, there have been “pains” along
the way. There have been stress filled, outright
disasters of days, and days that I have
hurt people with my words. But through it
all, maybe a few young minds have been
inspired. Teaching has allowed me to be
me. I try to be real. High school students
can see right through you and know if you
are a phony. As all 14 of you know, I like
to have fun. I like to laugh and maybe
get others to laugh with or at me. I guess
I can say the same thing about you folks.
Most of you have figured out that my self
degradation is simply a way of amusing,
entertaining and setting the hook for you to
keep reading until I can drop the God loves
you and have a cold one line. I’m blessed.
Blessed by God to have friends, family and
cold ones in my garage refrigerator ready to
pop open when life gets tiring.
