We Are Who We Are
Everyone has heard the phrase,
“like father, like son”, or “like
mother, like daughter”. Yes, we
are a lot like our parents. We have
inherited our physical, emotional,
and intellectual traits from the
two people who brought us into this world.
Many times I’ve seen my father in me.
My parents raised me in a Christian
home, with my father being a pastor. I
was taught the law. When I messed up,
I would have to suffer the consequences.
I also learned about forgiveness and the
grace of God. Back in the 1960’s when
I was growing up, there was a lot going
on, with the VietNam War, the hippy movement,
the Beatles, JFK’s and Martin Luther
King’s assassinations. I remember LBJ
being sworn in on Air Force One. Were
we that political? Not really. All I knew
was that the president was a powerful guy,
commander and chief of the most powerful
army in the world, and we were to respect
him as president. My parents really didn’t
tell me to be a Republican or Democrat,
they really didn’t even tell me how they
voted. When I turned 18 and I began to
vote, I had to decide on my own. It would
be interesting to see a study of how we
develop our political views and how we
then in turn vote. As I have written in the
past, many Christians vote for the party or
candidate that best represents their Christian
Worldview. But, how about the non-religious
sort of people? Some would say, “once a
Democrat, always a Democrat”. We tend
to stick with the party that our family has
always been. Geography and political leanings
are also interesting. Both the West and
East Coasts tend to be more liberal and are
predominantly Democrat stake
holds. The Midwest and the
southern Bible Belt states tend to
be more conservative and lean in
the Republican direction. Urban
areas and rural areas tend to differ in
voting preferences. More gun owners
live in the sticks, more college
educated people live in the cities.
We are a diverse country made up
of diverse people of many ethnic
makeups and political viewpoints. Can we
all come together and unite after next week’s
election? Probably not. I just pray that we
can respect one another enough to allow us
all the opportunity to live a peaceful life.
We are who we are. We are all Americans.
God gave us parents, He gave us families,
He has given us a country. We are blessed
to live in this great country. As we enter
into this upcoming week of an election that
will have a historical impact on our future,
may God bless you and your family and may
God bless the USA!
World Champions!
Congratulations to the 2020 World
Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers!
They were clearly the best team in baseball
this year and probably the best team for
several of the past years. The bouncing
ball didn’t go their way in past World
Series. The Astros might have stolen
one from them also. This year’s team won
it fair and square. The only disappointment
is that the large, loyal following of
Dodger fans could not see them in person
win it all at Dodger Stadium. The team is
young enough to keep on going back to the
World Series for several years to come. It’s
a great night for the big Blue Dodger in
the sky and the millions of Dodger fans all
around the world.
