Beautiful Oasis to Inglewood

elected officials, will decide how to pay for
public services and community improvements
with the money collected from your taxes.
You have the power to allocate where your
tax money is being spent just by voting on
your preferred elected official!
A second reason is with regards to education.
To all my fellow college students, we
often have barriers that make us want to quit
school, such as student debt or life challenges.
Your vote can help improve not only your
education but the education of future generations.
Local and state school board members
that you elect make the decisions on school
policies and budgets, thus, affecting what you
learn your future. Your government officials
also have the power to choose the quantity
and quality of public schools and higher
institutions. If you want a strong education,
let them know what you believe!
Third and most importantly, voting gives
you a voice. Take advantage that you have
the privilege to vote! Voting means much
more than just voting for a candidate. It’s
about choosing your preferred candidate and
policies who have your best interests in mind.
By voting, you are taking an active role in
deciding issues like jobs, infrastructure, equal
opportunity, and health care. Thus, go vote
and make the decision that best fits you!

My Thoughts
As I said before, in the past, I did not feel
voting had much significance. I always told
myself that my vote couldn’t ever affect me
personally. However, I was inspired to read
more about matters of voting by listening
to a family friend who I know as ‘Mama
Rosa.’ After 20 plus years of living in the
United States, she finally became a U.S.
citizen. She went through a lot of hardships
while taking care of four kids on her own in
Lennox, California. In her period of living as
undocumented, she did not have that voice
to have a better life for her and her kids.
Now that she is a U.S. Citizen, she uses her
voice to speak on behalf of those who do
not have that privilege to vote. With her as
my inspiration, I want to bring more young
folks involved to vote and let their voices be
heard. I feel fortunate enough to be working
in a place where they want more young
people and Black, Indigenous, and People of
Color to register to vote. With recent events,
I believe my generation will now stand up
and encourage the rest to register to vote. •

ourselves that we are forgiven, loved, saved,
and strengthened to do good works by our
great God. We don’t have to worry about
burning in Hades. Fear of hell does not save
us, God’s grace saves us. None of this “bull
malarkey” that’s going right now can take
those promises away from us. Stay cool my
friends. Remember, have a cool one because
God thinks you are cool.
