Ms. Cesslie Davalos Believes in
a Better Future for LESD Students
Meet our fabulous new student services LESD intern, Ms. Cesslie Davalos. It is her first semester as a MSW intern a Lawndale Elementary Schools and she is so excited to be working with the Lawndale community. She is a huge advocate for mental health and social emotional
services. She believes teaching children at a very young age about their feelings, self awareness, and regulating emotions will help our kids be successful adults in the future. She is on a mission to create social change so that our children can see a better tomorrow. Please
join us in welcoming her to the LESD family. Photo courtesy Lawndale Elementary School District.

of our local business owners look to invest in
giving back to our community. We urge you
to support your local neighborhood businesses
and help contribute to their continuing success
as well as the overall betterment of our city
neighborhoods!
Samantha’s Thoughts
Whether they are big or small, all types of
businesses are being affected by this period
of social distancing and self-isolation. More
importantly, out of all businesses affected, the
most impacted are the small businesses. Even
if the mandated closures are only temporary,
a large amount of local businesses have the
daily risk and possible reality of becoming
permanently closed. Many of these businesses
range from family-owned corner stores
to minority-owned beauty supplies stores.
To add to their importance, the employees
who work for these local stores depend on
these jobs for paying rent, providing for
their families, or funding their children’s
education. This is why it is important we always
try to support one another as neighbors!
I believe this is the perfect time to help one
another and reconnect with our community
of Hawthorne as a whole! We ask that you
help contribute to your local small businesses,
even if it is in the smallest way possible!
Some examples of ways you can support
them is by sharing your favorite local restaurants
on your social media profiles, visiting
your corner convenience store and buying a
$10 gift card for a friend or loved one, or
even simply walking into a local mini mart
and buying yourself a bottle of water on a
warm day. These unprecedented times have
put a strain on our community both mentally
and economically. Being placed under a home
lockdown because of Covid-19 has opened
our eyes to how much we all have struggled
as a community and how it’s now time to be
there for one another more than ever before. •

faith. Keep distance from doubt, and isolate
from fear. Trust God through it all. There
are things that happen here on early that
we really will never know why God allows
them to happen. We feel powerless. We feel
like we do not have control of our lives. We
can’t plan on going on a trip because it’s not
safe to travel. We can’t plan to expand our
business or add on to our house because we
don’t know how the economy is going to be
six months from now. All of this uncertainty
just adds to our fear. We fear getting the
virus. We fear that one of our loved ones
might be susceptible. I’ve been told that I
preach too much. But, who else are we going
to put our trust in if there is no God? Our
government? Our leaders? Our multimillion
dollar a year sports heroes? All of these
people and institutions are flawed. We all
are limited in our abilities. We all are less
than perfect. We all have our own agendas
to push. God is all knowing, all powerful
and loves us more than we can understand.
When fear grips you, remember who is in
charge. By putting our trust in God we have
nothing to fear, knowing that he will take
care of us no matter what comes our way.
God is not only there to flatten the fear, he
is there to take away our fear. The world is
crazy right now, but there is nothing on this
earth that is greater than God. Live fearless
my loyal reader friends. Use common sense
my friends. Remove your mask and have a
cold one, but don’t sing or chant in church.
Relax and fear not. God willing I will be
back next week for another attempt at throwing
some wisdom laden slimy, mud balls at
you and watching you duck out of the way.
Stupidity has not been outlawed in California
has it? Don’t be a snitch and report me, I’m
having too much fun.
