Huber’s Hiccups
News for the City of Good
Neighbors from an Old Guy
named Norb Huber
Travels
Linda and I went to visit our
son in Urbana, Illinois last week,
so I missed you all. We had not
seen him in over a year. Like most
everyone else, we stayed home last
year. Now that we both have been
vaccinated, we feel a little more comfortable
getting on an airplane and sitting elbow to
elbow with total strangers. All four of our
flights were full. There are fewer flights,
but more people are getting out. Of course,
masks were the rule. It seemed like people
were more polite than before the virus, there
wasn’t any pushing and shoving to exit the
aircrafts. Following our visit in Illinois, we
spent a couple of days in Indianapolis, drove
down to Louisville and then on to Nashville.
The spring rains had made everything nice
and green. It was fun to visit the Louisville
Slugger baseball bat factory and museum and
also drive by Churchill Downs. We couldn’t
get close to the horse race track since it was
Kentucky Derby weekend. There is a Corvette
museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky where
GM has assembled over one million of their
classic cars. Traveling further South,
we made it down to Nashville,
Tennessee. Our niece is working
there and we were able to stay
at her rented house. Down town
Nashville is party city. It’s a mix
between Las Vegas and New Orleans
with live music and entertainment.
The cold ones were plentiful. Party
buses cruised up and down the
streets. The Country Music Hall of
Fame is there. We had to drive a little bit to
visit the Grand Ol Opry. Nashville is known
as “Music City”. Some of you remember the
old television show, Hee Haw. It was filmed
in front of a live studio audience at the Opry
House. It ran for 26 seasons starting in 1969,
with 655 episodes being broadcast. Those
classic shows are long gone. With the variety
of numerous cable channels, very few shows
are watched by a large percentage of the
country. We used to watch the same shows on
one of the three main networks. It seems like
the tv shows brought us more together, even
if the shows were stupid. The more stupid
the show, the more they were watched. We
needed a good laugh. Rowan and Martin’s
Laugh-In was another one of those shows
that brought some humor into our houses.
