Happy World Rotaract Week and
Happy International Women’s Day
Hawthorne/Lennox Rotaract Club would like to give a shout out to the ladies of their club for International Women’s Day: Sierra Smith, Vanessa Rodriguez, Stephanie Quintero, Maggie Ortiz and Deisy Ocegueda. The club’s 9th year anniversary is this Friday. They would
like to celebrate their continued efforts in promoting service, friend, and professional development. Most importantly, diversity and inclusivity of those that represent the suburbs of Hawthorne, Lennox, and the West Side of Los Angeles. Pictured (left to right): Sierra Smith

Want and Need and
Still Waters
One of the most familiar passages
in all of scripture is the 23rd Psalm.
It’s right up there with John 3:16
as being memorized by a majority
of Christians. The opening verse
is: “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not
want.” Wow! What a comforting promise
this is. God is more than just our leader, he
is the big guy who is looking out after his
flock. He cares for each of his sheep, each
of them has value. He tends to them and
keeps them under his watch. God loves us!
He cares for every human need: physical,
emotional, and spiritual. But, what about
that second part? “I shall not want.” This
does not mean that we will get whatever we
want, but rather that all of our needs will be
met. God knows what is best for us. A lot of
times, we desire things in our lives that may
not be beneficial to our wellbeing. The world
makes us envious of others who may have a
bigger RV or house boat or vacation cabin.
We think if we just had enough money, life
would be grand. By allowing God to be in
charge, we can have contentment. We know
he will supply all that we need. Our entire
life can be one of striving after that elusive
pot of gold, only to find out that there ain’t
no pot at the end of the rainbow. Verses 2
and 3 of Psalm 23 read: “He makes me lie
down in green pastures, He leads me besides
still waters, He restores my soul”. God guides
me the right direction. Sheep cannot drink
from a rushing stream. Sheep quench themselves
in still, quiet waters. When
we are tired and need a rest, God
restores our souls. These pictures
that are painted here are in direct
contrast with the fast, chaotic,
never-ending blasts of news, and
fake news, and video trauma and
viral expressions of stupidity, hate
and vulgarity that are all around
us in this world. Cancel culture
would cancel my small little voice
if they would hear me preach a Gospel of
good news to all people no matter what
color of skin, what ethnic make up, or what
political views they have. We read further in
the Psalm, “Even though I walk through the
valley of the shadow of death, I will fear
no evil.” People, WE are walking through
shadows of death, when abortions are being
paid for by our tax money, when people are
being silenced for standing up for the truth,
and when “free speech is no longer free”. We
must never live in fear. We simply preach
Christ crucified. The world may seem upside
down, but we have our eyes focused on the
saving truth, and there is nothing that can
get in our way. Be brave folks. The Lord is
our Shepherd. Have a cold one. Relax and
let God lead you beside the still waters.
Vaccines and Masks and Life
So, now even if you get your two shots you
are still suppose to ware a mask. I thought
once we got vaccinated then we would
finally be free to move about this planet
freely. Once the pilot turns off the seat belt
sign, then we are free to move about. I got
tested for COVID a couple of days ago, the
test came back negative. I am going in for
an outpatient procedure tomorrow and they
