and spending less time at home; however,
that changed abruptly. It is understandable
that working and learning at home can be a
struggle. Even without the pandemic, we find
ourselves being critical too much. Therefore,
this year I advise all of us to start complimenting
ourselves. Repeat after this: “Today
is my day. I am thankful for me”. Channeling
positive self-talk can enhance what’s good
for your personal life and mental health. By
showing gratitude, you feel happier and can
even improve in subtle but important ways,
such as your sleep. Even if you’re having a
bad day, remember that you are trying, and
that’s more than enough. Your mental wellbeing
matters!
Write to Yourself
Buy a little journal! Write to yourself once a
day about what you did, your inner thoughts,
or list any goals you want to achieve! After
a long day, open your journal and write to
yourself. Many have said that journaling
is a fantastic method to keep your thoughts
organized and making them apprehensible.
It also relieves stress. From my personal
experience, it felt terrific jotting down my
anxieties and frustrations than relying on
someone. Believe it or not, stress accumulates
over time, and writing it down helps free any
tension. Finally, it allows you to self-reflect.
During my teen years, I realized that life is
moving quickly, and I wanted to
improve myself. I concluded that our fastpaced
lives could become hectic, making us
feel pressured as others sometimes have high
expectations. Journaling is an excellent way
to take a step back and reflect on ourselves.
We can start listing what we want to learn,
stop, and create. We can eventually look
back at our journal and think how happy
we have changed. These must be one of my
top favorite resolutions. I wanted to focus on
more resolutions that can apply to anyone:
kids, adults, students, workers, and so on. I
wanted to target more mindful and spiritual
resolutions rather than typical resolutions
such as losing weight or trying a new diet.
Remember that with any resolution, it is essential
to focus more on the progress than the
result. Sit down on what you truly want to
achieve this year and stick to it! From my
experience, I prefer to keep the process to
myself as it motivates me rather than speaking
on it, and the process collapse midway. I also
suggest being gentle with yourselves as we
are still going through a pandemic. I wish
nothing but blessings to everyone who is
reading this. Happy New Year, Hawthorne!
My Thoughts
As I said before, I love the New Year. It
gives me the opportunity to self-reflect, see
how much I’ve changed from when I was
18, and looking forward of what the year
holds for me. I will say from 2018-2021, I
am proud of how much I’ve grown and think
differently. I used to think “I wish I can go
back to this time and fix everything”, but
now I prefer to learn from it and apply that
lesson to whatever situation will come up.
Not only that, but I honestly get excited for
what future 2021 has in store for me. It’s a
celebratory moment and gives me the chance
to love myself more. As for resolutions, I do
want to start learning more about Chakra
Stones, or healing stones. I’ve never been a
big fan of meditation for personal reasons.
However, seeing this everywhere made me
want to start. I’ve also been creating new
music playlists and listening to new artists.
I see it as a way in discovering myself and
what I truly like. So far, I’ve created one
new playlist that bumps my mood for sure
when I catch myself feeling negative emotions.
Although I am nervous for this year,
I do hope it is a good one for me. •
