Job Interview Workshop-
Hawthorne Police Department
The Hawthorne Police Department will be
hosting a job interview workshop on January
23rd from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Police
Department understands how nerve-wracking
a job interview can be. As they say on their
website, “Rather than just going into your next
oral interview ‘HOPING’ you do well, come
on down and see what we have to offer. Your
future just might end up being a bit brighter
for it.” The workshop will be instructed by
Lieutenant Ti Goetz and Detective Kenny Craig
of the Hawthorne Police department. Many
have attended this event before, more than
satisfied with the outcome. It is very common
to have a fear of being interviewed and unsure
of one’s own skills. This workshop will help
anyone overcome those obstacles and be the
best candidate they can be. This workshop
will be held at the Hawthorne PD Community
Room. For more information and to register
for the event please visit: hawthornepolice.

Happy New Decade?
Did you miss me? Did you think I
had quit? Were you hoping that I had
quit? Have you sent my email address
to spam or to the trash on your computer?
Have you stopped looking for the newspaper
since I haven’t bothered writing any of this
stupid stuff lately? No one is forcing you
to read this. It really doesn’t hurt my feelings
if some of you 12 loyal readers give up
and drop out. Do you really think I care? I
would love to think that at least some of you
care, some of you like my jibber jabber. Is
there a point to all of this? No. That is the
point. I write about you and me and how
we have this relationship but neither one of
us knows the other. I don’t know if you read
this, you don’t know if I know you read it.
So, maybe this is perfect. We can have a
relationship with one another and not really
bother one another. That seems wonderful.
I don’t know if you know that God loves
you a lot or even if you like cold ones. So,
happy new decade, except it’s not really a
new decade for one more year. Why don’t
we just wish each other the best in 2020,
call it good, and have a cold one.
When is it the right time?
They say timing is everything. But, how do
you know if it’s the right time? Is it the right
time to buy a house, the right time to sell
our stocks, the right time to retire, the right
time to quit thinking you’re young
enough to still play in the NBA or
NFL and stop getting hurt playing
weekend pickup games. When do
we really know for sure? For many
of us hindsight is when we are at our
best. We look back and say if only
we would have sold those shares of
GM when they were at the top. If only we
would have invested in property back in the
60’s and 70’s we would be living the good
life right now. “If only”, are two words that
lead us to a regretful state of mind. We regret
and we look back at all the mistakes we
think have made. For Christians we lean on
and have peace knowing that Romans 8:28
says, “And we know that for those who love
God all things work together for good, for
those who are called according to his purpose.”
No regrets, look forward, stop looking
back, use your God given brain to make
the best decisions you can and relax. And
the peace of God which surpasses all understanding
will keep your hearts and minds in
Christ Jesus. That is what you call peace
and contentment. No worries, just peace of
mind.
How Do These Things Happen?
My youngest daughter has had quite a year.
A little over a year ago, Katie started dating
a fine young man, named Paul. They fell in
love. Paul was baptized and confirmed at our
church. He proposed to Katie, she accepted.
They planned a wedding in five months,
got married, went to Disney World on their
