Precious Pooches
the second time in my short, 3-year life that I
ended up at the shelter. We’ve been together
for as long as I can remember, but not sure if
we’re related. My friend and I could be brother
and sister because neither of us are purebreds.
However, we’re really cute Miniature Schnauzer
mixes and look a lot alike. I’m a bit overweight
at 25 pounds, but I’m still easily transportable.
I believe with a bit of exercise, I could shed
those extra pounds pretty quickly and become
a slim, trim, handsome guy. I’ve been told
that I’m well-behaved and mellow for such
a youngster, so I don’t imagine I was ever a
wild child. I am also very devoted to my gal
pal so I am really hoping that when I find my
forever home, they’ll want to take her in too.”

“Hi there. They call me Sloan and right now
I’m pretty confused. First of all, my previous
owner surrendered the gal I’ve known my whole
life and me to an LA City shelter. I have no
idea why we were suddenly unwanted, but it’s

Sylvia
“Hello, I’m Sylvia. I’m a 3-year-old Miniature
Schnauzer mix, just like my best friend Sloan.
He could be my littermate because we’ve been
together for as long as I can remember and
we are very devoted to each other. We’re even
the same age and look alike, so anything is
possible. I sure am hoping that someone will
have a huge heart and adopt both of us so we
can always be together. One minute we were
happy and loved and then next minute...dumped
at a shelter. I have no idea why our previous
owner surrendered us to an LA City shelter,
but it’s the second time I’ve been there in my
short life and I’m hoping it’s the last. It’s a
scary place for a young gal, so I’m glad I have
my BFF with me. I know that at 15 pounds,
I’m a tad over my ideal weight -- but there’s
a 13-pound girl inside just screaming to get
out and my first goal is to be her. People say
that I am very well-behaved and calm for such
a young girl, but I learned the importance of
manners and do my best to use them. I’m sure
you would be impressed with my behavior too.”
If you’re interested in Sylvia, please email
info@msfr.org for more information.
“Let me introduce myself. My name is
Toohey, which in its original Gaelic form means
ruler. So far, I think I’ve done a pretty good job of
managing my life. I’m an 8-year old, male
Australian Shepherd mix who is still very lively
and physically fit. I’m definitely no couch potato!
That said I can no longer be in a home with
small children, but would be the ideal companion
for a single person or a couple that likes to
stay active and spend their time walking and
hiking with me. I’ve been told that I’m super
smart and I’ve learned how to communicate
my needs quite well. For example, I will let
you know when I need to go out and when
I’m ready to turn in for the night, I’ll just go
into my bed/room and retire. I’ve passed my
obedience training with flying colors and I
love to play fetch, go on walks/hikes or run at
the beach. My favorite pastime is playing ball,
but fetch and hiking are also right up there. As
you can see, I’m still quite the athlete even at
my age and I’m planning on staying that way.
I’m a very fit 35 pounds of love and energy
who would make an awesome companion for
someone who enjoys being on the go.”

Give one of these kitties a second chance
for a lifetime of love when you adopt a pet
without a partner.
Coral is the perfect combination of cuddly and
independent. She is very sweet and has a fun
and quirky personality. She is not a constant
talker, but will let you know when she would
like your attention with her unique meow or a
gentle paw on your cheek. Coral is part of a
bonded pair and must be adopted with her best
friend, Nala. They are adorable together. When
Nala had health complications, Coral took it
upon herself to be the big sister and protector.
Nala fought a severe case of pneumonia and
won with Coral by her side to support her.
Please consider adopting these two girls. They
will bring a ton of love and fun to your home.
Nala is an adorable, spunky and tiny bundle
of fun. She is small for her age at 6 pounds
and most likely will stay that way. You can
just look at Nala and she will start purring.
She also has an awesomely cute meow that
sounds a little like a goat. Nala and Coral are
adorable together, are definitely bonded and
their personalities balance each other nicely...
the perfect pair!
Honey Bear and her siblings were rescued
from an alley at just three weeks old. Sick and
very malnourished, they had to be hand-fed until
they could eat on their own. Because she was
handled so much at such a young age, Honey
Bear loves people and has no fear. She follows
you from room to room for attention and insists
on snuggling at bedtime. Honey Bear is a very
energetic and playful kitten. She loves to play
wrestle and chase for hours with her siblings
Sugar Bear, Cocoa Bear, Mr. Bear, Baby Bear
and Lucky Girl. Honey Bear would love to be
adopted with any of her siblings…but if you
already have a playful kitty at home, she can
bond with them. She cannot be an only kitty.
Madam Leota has the most beautiful coat
and the most adorable personality. She loves
to cuddle and give you kisses even though at
first she is very shy in a new environment.
However, once Leota feels safe, she will run
around and play like nothing is stopping her.
This sweet girl also enjoys taking naps near
her human and will rest her head right on your
arm or leg. In a very adorable way, she likes
to lick chins. This little cutie loves all types
of cat toys and any type of string. Leota also
enjoys any type of climbing post or cat tower.
Madam Leota would be a great kitten for any
family– preferably one that can spend time
playing with her as she has a lot of energy.

is as sweet as pie. Truffle is a quiet, calm kitten
who enjoys being held and petted. She also
loves having fun with her mom and litter mates.
So she would be great as a playmate with your
current kitty or would be thrilled to be adopted
with one of the members of her family.
Wow! If you are looking for a fun, social
kitty, then Tallulah is the one for you. She is a
beautiful, petite, stunning kitty with gorgeous,
amber-colored eyes. She is very photogenic.
If you enjoy taking photos of your kitty, then
you will not be disappointed. This little girl
enjoys making friends at the sanctuary. So if
you have another kitty, Tallulah would be a
good fit. At the same time, we think she would
be equally happy to be an only child.

The policy experts singled out Florida
and its employers as the top offenders of
wage theft, followed by Ohio and New York.
There was no mention of California, though
the recommendations for curbing payroll
pilfering mirrored how the Champion case
was handled.
In short: Toughen the pay laws, fund
enforcement and protect workers who file
claims from retaliation by the employers.
Wage theft is defined as the failure to pay
workers the full wages to which they are
legally entitled. Wage theft can take many
forms, including paying less than the legal
minimum wage. The minimum wage in
California is $11 per hour, and between $12
and $13.75 in Los Angeles County, depending
on the number of employees at a company.
Wage violations almost always involve
money, though denying workers their meal
breaks falls under this category too. Not
paying overtime qualifies, along with taking
illegal deductions from paychecks or paying
workers the difference between their tips and
the legal minimum wage.
The drywall crew at Champion got paid
back in early July. That happened after their
employer Champion made the last installment
on a $1.19 million judgment -- its payback
for wage theft. •
