Hawthorne Happenings
News for the City of Good
Neighbors from an Old Guy
Named Norb Huber
John Baker
Memorial Cruise Night
Join other Hawthorne High Cougar
Alums at a very special night at Foster’s
Freeze on Hawthorne Blvd. In memory of
John Baker, there will be a cruise night on
Saturday, July 21 from 5 to 9 p.m. Come
out and get reunited with your HHS friends.
Cougartown is alive and well.
Nextdoor Election
Nextdoor, the local social media, has
become the best way to reach voters. This
past school bond election in Holly Glen
was defeated partly due to the campaign
announcements made on Nextdoor. This fall,
two city council seats, the city clerk and the
city treasurer’s positions will all be up for
grabs and Nextdoor might be the best place
to get endorsements. When I ran for city
clerk back in 2009, we didn’t have Nextdoor,
I literally ran for my office. I laced up my
my running shoes and ran from door to
door to put advertisements on as many front
porches as I could. Now that I’m retired, I
might start running again. I need to stay in
shape to complete my long “honey do” list.
Moving Van
Moving day arrived on Monday of this
week. Our move to Orangevale has come
and gone. Some of my loyal readers and
friends came over to help load boxes on
to the moving van in the cool 68
degree morning hours. Now, it’s on
to NorCal where the temps will be
in the 90’s this week and 102 this
Saturday. Our swimming pool will be
looking pretty good after the last box
is unloaded. So, now I’m officially a
former resident of Hawthorne. If you
are a loyal reader, please send stay in contact
with me. Send me the latest, inside scoop on
what is happening in Hawthorne. I’m going
to be relying on you folks to keep me up
to date. Thank you once again to all who
have emailed me and have sent well wishes
my way this past week. Thanks to those of
you who gave me some cold ones. Thanks
for the great memories of living in the City
of Good Neighbors.
Flamethrowers and O’Hare
Let me get this right, the Boring Company
sells thousands of flame throwers to raise
capital and then is awarded the job to dig a
tunnel from downtown Chicago to O’Hare
Airport. I’m hoping that our fine city gets
some tax revenue from the sale of this collector’s
item that people are willing to drive
across the country for.
Fireworks Sales
Support our local non-profits and get
out and buy some LEGAL fireworks. The
funds raised really make a difference in the
budgets of many of our clubs and organizations.
Fireworks stands will begin to open
on June 28th.
