Hawthorne Happenings
News for the City of Good
Neighbors from an Old Guy
Named Norb Huber
Name Change?
The name of this rambling has been
“Hawthorne Happening” even before I
took to writing it nine years ago. The
title is a misnomer now. A misnomer is a “wrong
or inaccurate name or designation”. I really
don’t know what is happening in Hawthorne.
Most people in Hawthorne don’t know what
is happening in Hawthorne. That is why I felt
it important enough to sit down once a week
to try to let people know what was happening
in Hawthorne. But now that I am living 400
miles North, for the life of me I don’t know
what is happening. These days I mainly talk
about life and cold ones and God. I really
should come up with a new name. How about
these names: “Huber’s Happenings”, “Thank
God for a Cold One”, “Here’s to You, God”,
“Don’t Be Stupid, Relax!”, “Formerly Hawthorne
Happenings”, “An Ex-Resident’s Rants”,
“Life After Hawthorne”, “A Jolly Journal from
an Escapee”, or finally “A Cold One and A
Nice Old Lady: What More is There?” Since
I don’t get paid to write this, since all 10 to
15 loyal readers read this each week, since
no one really cares what I write, I guess I
can call it any darn thing I want to call it.
Maybe I will change the title every week. I
have tried to give this job away. I’ve tried to
recruit a co-writer. I have talked to
my relatives and they have told me to
stop writing this hog wash. My dear,
almost 90 year old, mother-in-law has
been embarrassed by my expounding
the virtues of beer and God. She
blames her son, the Lutheran pastor,
for not stopping me. All of this just
motivates more. “Resilience” is the name of
the beer being sold by Sierra Nevada Brewery
of Chico, CA. All of the sales from this beer
is going towards the Camp Fire Relief Fund.
Resilience is a great word. It means to be
“able to withstand or recover quickly from
difficult conditions”. Basically, this is what
I have been preaching about all this time,
have a cold one, be resilient. When life gets
unbearable, just chill out and trust God.
Rain, Wind and Cold
It never rains in Southern California, but
it does up here. Our neighbor’s tree blew
down. Just a few mudslides around the burn
areas. The snow pack should be getting
close to average. It’s only the second week
of January and many of us are longing for
that sunny weather of the Spring and Summer.
Upcoming Hawthorne Events
Who knows?
No one sent me any, so there must be none.
If there are any, send them my way, let
me know what is happening.
