Measure R transportation funding for one of the
largest projects in El Segundo history – the Park
Place gap closure and grade separation. The
Council agreed to budget $300,000 each of the
next two years towards design, with construction
estimated in 2017 at $55 million (not including
potential right-of-way acquisition costs). The
construction period could take three to four
years. The approval process requires the South
Bay Council of Governments to submit the request
to Metro. “This is a great regional project
and one of the top ones in the South Bay COG
program,” Berkman said. “It will be a great help
to not only alleviate traffic on PCH, but also
Rosecrans. It will also provide access to the
Metro Green Line and Douglas Street Station
and enhance access to the Crenshaw/LAX line
and the airport’s future automated people mover.”

consultant work, Council approvals of
the plans, and advertising for construction to
