Henry Stuart South Bay Tournament. The
Eagles played five games over two days. On
the first day, the Eagles dismantled Montebello
15-9 and were led by Owen Hale’s five goals
and Kyle Crist’s four goals. In the second
game, El Segundo got by La Canada 6-3.
Crist had four goals, Hale and Schodorf had
one goal apiece and Caden Kastigar protected
the cage with 13 saves.
The Eagles faced highly touted Mira Costa
in the third round. Due to SAT test0taking by
a number of players, the Eagles were forced
to start three freshmen and two sophomores.
Costa took advantage of El Segundo’s inexperience
and defeated the Eagles 16-3.
El Segundo rebounded from the loss and defeated
Peninsula 9-7 in a physical game. Hale
led the way with three goals and Mason
Jaeger had two. Kyle Crist, Kalan Smith,
Brian Schodorf and Jaden Van Der Woude
each scored once.
The Eagles finished fourth in the tournament
with their 15-5 loss to La Serna. The
game was close for the first three periods,
but exhaustion set in the team couldn’t keep
up the pace. Danny Gonzalez, Kalan Smith,
Kyle Crist, Owen Hale and Brian Schodorf
each scored for the Eagles who are 16-5
overall and 3-0 in Ocean League play.

Against Santa Monica the Lady Eagles
were swept 25-18, 28-26, 25-23 in a highly
competitive match. El Segundo hit a dismal
0.186 overall and was hampered by poor
passing and unforced errors. In game two,
Lexi Tecun aced a serve and gave her team
a 22-20 lead. Alyssa Pearson’s hit gave the
Lady Eagles a 26-25 lead, but they couldn’t
close it out and fell short at the end. In the
third game, miscommunication helped in Santa
Monica taking a 16-10 lead. El Segundo went
on a run and Pearson gave her team a 21-19
lead. However, the Lady Eagles’ failure to
close it out by committing unforced errors
led to Santa Monica winning game three.
