Obituaries
In Loving Memory
Senior Master
Sergeant Christopher Crawford
13 June 1977 - 22 September 2018
SMSgt Christopher Lee
Crawford was born June 13, 1977
in Inglewood, CA and grew up in
the small beach town of El Segundo.
Christopher was a Boy Scout,
Emergency Services Explorer
Scout, and earned his Eagle Scout
in May 1993. Some of his passions
were family time, surfing, dirt
bike riding, sculpting and gaming.
In his 20 years of military service
for the US Air Force, Christopher
worked many jobs including Communications,
as an MTI (Military Training Instructor) and
MTI supervisor, Superintendent of Network
Operations Division, 625th Operations Center
and most currently working for the Inspector
Generals office. He received many awards,
but more importantly to Christopher was his
mentorship to many young Airmen.
Christopher knew Jesus as
his personal savior, and was
baptized while stationed in
Cheyenne, WY. He is survived
by his wife Kendra, son Tristan,
his parents Jerry and Cindy Crawford,
sister Kathryn (Matthew)
Pedroza, their sons Camron and
Spencer, his in-laws Pam and Sid
Germeroth, two sisters-in-law
and their families.
A funeral with full military
honors was held in San Antonio, TX on
September 28, 2018. A Celebration of Life
will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at
11:00 at Hotel Piccadilly, 2305 W Shaw Ave,
Fresno, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests donations be made in Christopher’s
name to Wounded Warrior Project. http://

Not Pleased With Coverage
I take issue with the El Segundo Herald
publishing lengthy stories about the Wiseburn
Unifed School District and it’s board meetings,
while publishing less information about the
El Segundo Unified School District. Wiseburn
should be covered in the Hawthorne Press
Tribune and ESUSD should be covered in the
El Segundo Herald, period. Living within a
school district’s boundaries is mandatory to
attend most public schools. ESUSD serves
students living within El Segundo and ESUSD
boundaries, which are: all residents west of
PCH, south of Imperial Highway, and north
of El Segundo Boulevard. Wiseburn serves
students living in Hollyglen, Del Aire, and
Wiseburn.
There is no reason to promote the Wiseburn
District in the El Segundo Herald,
except maybe to cover the new pool, which
is managed by El Segundo Recreation and
Parks. The El Segundo Herald’s actions could
directly and negatively impact the financial
health of ESUSD. State funding is allocated
by formula per student to all school districts;
if a student moves to another school district,
that funding goes with the student.
ESUSD is one of 80 school districts in
California to receive the least amount of annual
funding. Many neighboring communities
receive more funding under Local Control
Funding Formula regulations and are able to
guarantee funding for programs ESUSD and
the El Segundo Education Foundation have
to fundraise in order to sustain.
An El Segundo newspaper should cover
information about the sole school district
serving families and students living within
the city and ESUSD boundaries.
