Kiwanis Good Citizenship Award:
James McLay

James McLay observed an unknown male
enter an opening in a chain link fence surrounding
a neighbor’s home under construction. He
then saw the suspect walk into the garage and
remove property. McLay approached the male
and asked what he was doing with the property.
ESPD’s Community Police Academy
The El Segundo Police Department (ESPD)
is currently accepting applications for the
next Community Police Academy slated
to begin on Oct. 4. Classes will take place
every Thursday evening from that date for a
10-week period (except for Thanksgiving).
The course is for those interested in learning
more about how the ESPD functions and
operates. The academy will explain the
responsibilities of department employees and
allow community members a closer look at
what law enforcement truly entails. The goal
of the program is to open the lines of communication
and encourage interaction between

The suspect returned the items to the garage and
immediately left the area. Believing the man
intended to commit a theft, McLay called the
police to report what he witnessed. His quick
action led to the arrest of a burglary suspect.

One male and one female were arrested
at 0137 hours from Hyperion and Vista Del
Mar for identity theft, fraudulent possession
of a scan device and one LAPD misdemeanor
warrant.

Sunday, Aug. 26
One male adult was arrested at 0119 hours
from the 1400 block of East Imperial Avenue
for misappropriation of lost property and one
LBPD misdemeanor traffic warrant.
One female adult was arrested at 1405
hours from the 400 block of North Pacific
Thursday, Aug. 23
Traffic accident (no injuries) occurred
at 0722 hours in the intersection of Nash
Street and Rosecrans Avenue, vehicle versus
center divider.
One female adult was arrested at 1214
hours from the 900 block of McCarthy Court
for two ESPD misdemeanor warrants.
Petty theft occurred between 08/22/18 and
08/23/18 in the 700 block of South Pacific
Coast Highway. Miscellaneous clothing items
were stolen.
One female adult was arrested at 1834
hours from the 300 block of Loma Vista
Street for plain drunk in public.
