Dr. Chanin is a
Well-loved Doctor
Dr. Chanin has been serving the El Segundo
community with medical distinction for nearly
40 years. On Monday, August 26, 2019, Dr.
Chanin was informed his services are no
longer needed at El Segundo Medical Center
and he was terminated. Many El Segundo
citizens have had lifesaving and extending
services from Dr. Chanin, in my family’s case
for over 35 years. It is inconceivable that
the Center leadership would leave a lot of
El Segundo patients and others without the
consistent care of Dr. Chanin. Dr. Chanin’s
departure could result in patient life altering
situations. We wish the best for our long
time PCP and look forward to his relocation
hopefully in or close to El Segundo.

Only One Generation Away
Now that’s interesting. First the Mayor
(El Segundo’s Panjandrum) started the city
council meetings an hour early to eliminate
some of the “would be” speakers. Then the
Panjandrum arrives back in El Segundo from
over a week stay in communist China and
eliminates by half the time a public speaker
has to address the council. It seems to me
El Segundo City Council meetings are a “sit
down - shut up - and applaud when you’re
told to” a “just like China” situation. Former
President Ronald Reagan warned us about
this many years ago when he stated “The
freedom and liberty that you now have and
enjoy today is only one generation away from
total and complete destruction”. He said this
about a generation ago.

Robert Mark Rooney
Robert “Mark” Rooney peacefully
pasted away on Monday
September 2nd. He was Born in
Stamford, Connecticut on May
8th 1951 to Joseph Rooney “Bud”
and Shirley Rooney “Dot”. Mark
leaves behind his best friend and
wife of Forty years Katherine
Margot Rooney and his two sons
Joseph, and Patrick Rooney, as
well as his three siblings Todd
Rooney, Sandy Chenet and
Scott Rooney, not to mention the numerous
In-Laws, nieces and nephews. He
was a LAPD Police Officer (of
33 years), a Godfather, Father
and above all a great husband.
His love for family was first
and the community was a close
second. He dedicated his life to
protecting all he loved whether
that was on duty, at home or
coaching his children on the
diamond. Mark will be forever
missed, but never forgotten.

Learn How to Prepare
for a Disaster
The City of El Segundo will host Disaster
Preparedness Day on Thursday, Sept. 12
from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at 350 Main St. The El
Segundo Preparedness Day is a hands-on
community emergency/disaster education
event for El Segundo residents and businesses.
Emergencies can happen at anytime, anywhere
to anyone. Now is the time to prepare and
learn how to make a plan, build an emergency
supply kit and stay informed. Event
will feature emergency response vehicles,
Red Cross, preparedness demonstrations and
informational displays.
The first 60 minutes after a disaster are
critical for survival. Everyone should have
a plan. Preparation may help save lives. In
a large disaster, emergency services will be
overwhelmed and education and preparedness
helps residents and business to plan ahead.
Learn suggested supplies for food, water, and
first aid supplies at home, in the car, and at
the office. Learn how to apply CPR, identify
serious bleeding and stop it, basic first aid,
how to manage resources during a prolonged
emergency, how to pack an emergency bag.
The event will be hosted and conducted
by the El Segundo Emergency Management
Team in partnership with the El Segundo
Fire and Police departments.
