ESIHA Crowns
Summer Champions
By Gregg McMullin
The summer schedule of the El Segundo
In-line Hockey Association completed the
season with Championship Saturday. On a
sun-drenched day, a standing-room-only crowd
watched and cheered as champions captured
crowns in three divisions. The Mite, Squirt
and Pee Wee divisions played for the right
to place the champion’s names on a replica
of the Stanley Cup. League coordinator Jeff
Tiddens said the summer schedule of teams
was a success and provided an outlet for
players keeping their skating skills alive until
the winter games.
White Knights Win Mite Division
The Mite Division matchup between the
White Knights and the Chiefs may have been a
lopsided affair, with the White Knights winning
9-3, but the Chiefs displayed their fortitude
until the end. The White Knights pounded the
goal with three shots attempts when Brayden
Le finally pushed the puck past Chiefs goalie
Jaiden Kachurka three minutes into the game.
A short time later, William Sutton scored on
a breakaway to make it 2-0. Later on in the
first half, Le fed Sutton on the right wing and
Sutton scored again. With 1:03 remaining in
the first half, Le’s passing skills came into
play again with a pass to Paulo Frustaci who
scored for a 4-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, the White Knights continued
their assault on the Chiefs goal. Dustin
Vanek’s goal with another assist from Brayden
Le made it 5-0. With the Chiefs playing short,
the White Knights took advantage of a power
play and Le scored again. Frustaci found a
loose puck off a shot attempt and scored for
a 7-0 lead. Sutton and Le teamed up for another
score midway through the second half

Davlantis Ready to Tackle ESMS
Assistant Principal Post for Good
By Duane Plank
When El Segundo Unified School District
(ESUSD) educator Sarah Davlantis was
approached last November and asked by the
administration to move to a new position
at El Segundo Middle School (ESMS)
as the acting assistant principal, she said
she was “surprised and honored” to see that
someone had the faith in her to think she could
succeed in a new position. As the District
looked to fill the position on a permanent
basis for the 2019/20 school year, it did not
see the need to interview outside applicants
or advertise the job. After all, Davlantis had
just finished what amounted to a half-year
job interview.
Ali Rabiei, who at the time was the acting
principal at ESMS, said that Davlantis
is well-prepared for her permanent appointment.
“Mrs. Davlantis has had a six-month
interview to be the next assistant principal at
the middle school and she clearly knocked
the interview out of the park,” he said.
The sudden resignation of El Segundo
High School (ESHS) Principal Dr. Jennifer
Hawn last November led to multiple personnel
moves, with ESMS Principal Dr. Melissa
Gooden moving to the high school to replace
Sarah Davlantis
Hawn, Rabiei taking over as acting principal
at the middle school, and Davlantis replacing
Rabiei as the acting assistant principal.
Aware of the fairly recent shuffling of
District administrators, Davlantis called it a
“bit of a rough road.” She added, “But we
