Summer Baseball Still Alive
in El Segundo
The El Segundo Babe Ruth League 15-year-old All-Stars are off to Bakersfield to compete in the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament.

It’s been two years since baseball in El
Segundo extended into the summer months.
Little League All-Stars, Babe Ruth League All-
Stars, and American Legion teams were each in
action playing in District and State tournaments.
15s Advance to Regional
Tournament with a Pair of Wins
El Segundo faced Heartwell in a best of
three series, with the winner advancing to
the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament
in Bakersfield. El Segundo swept both games
5-0 and 9-2 to punch their ticket to the
Regional for the first time since hosting the
2012 Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament.
In the first game, Dominick Kopecky
singled, stole second base, and scored on
a fielder’s choice to give El Segundo a 1-0
lead in the third inning. Max Martinez’s
solo home run extended the lead to 2-0 in
the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, Lucas
Bonham’s RBI single scored Aiden Corral,
and El Segundo would tag on two more runs
in the sixth inning for the 5-0 win.
In the second game, El Segundo combined
three pitchers to hold off Heartwell in their
9-2 win. It was a game of opportunities that
El Segundo took advantage of. Trailing 2-0
in the third inning, El Segundo tied the game
when they walked three times and were the
victim of two hit batters. In the fourth inning,
Kopecky singled and stole second base; he
would score on an error. In the fifth inning,
Nik Kvitek was hit by a pitch and scored
on a double-steal, while Corral scored on
an RBI single by Kopecky to make it 7-2.
El Segundo would tag on two more runs
in the sixth inning to make it a 9-2 final.
Dominick Kopecky, Dylan Alcala, and Max
Martinez combined to limit Heartwell to two
runs on five hits, and Martinez struck out six
in three innings.
El Segundo advances to the Pacific Southwest
Regional Tournament in Bakersfield
starting July 25. The winner of the Regional
Tournament advances to the World Series
beginning August 10 in Eagle Pass, Texas.
14s Win in a Walk-Off
El Segundo won its first game in the state
tournament in thrilling fashion when they spotted
Heartwell a 3-0 lead. In the third inning,
Grady Lubs singled and later scored on an
RBI single by Ethan Ayler to close the gap.
With El Segundo trailing 3-1 in the bottom
of the seventh inning Reed Abrams, Shane
Huber, and Mays Borgmeyer each drew a
walk. Lubs’ sacrifice fly ball scored Abrams
to make it 3-2. Gavin McKinnon had an RBI
double scoring Robert Cantu who pinch ran

One male adult was detained at 1340 hours
from the 600 block of North Pacific Coast
Highway and transported to Exodus Harbor
Medical Center for a 72- hour psychiatric
evaluation.
A grand theft report was taken at 1354
hours from the 1000 block of East Mariposa
Avenue. Unknown suspect(s) stole the catalytic
converter from the victim’s vehicle.
A missing person report was taken at 1955
hours from the 400 block of West Imperial
Avenue. A male adult was reported missing.
An online grand theft report was taken at
0028 hours from the 400 block of East Sycamore
Avenue. Unknown suspect(s) stole the
victim’s catalytic converter from his vehicle
One male adult was arrested at 0216 hours
from Maple Avenue and Washington Street
for possession of a controlled substance and
possession of drug paraphernalia.
Tuesday, July 6th
A grand theft report was taken at 1149
hours from the 300 block of Center Street.
Unknown suspect(s) stole the catalytic converter
from the victim’s vehicle.
An identity theft report was taken at 1234
hours from the 1200 block of East Acacia
Avenue. Unknown suspect(s) opened a
fraudulent account in the victim’s name
A stolen vehicle report was taken at 1659
hours from the 2100 block of East Maple
Avenue. Taken was a 2011 BMW 328i
One female adult was arrested at 1739
hours from the 400 block of Main Street
for misdemeanor DUI.
Wednesday, July 7th
A grand theft report was taken at 0841
hours from the 300 block of Center Street.
Unknown suspect(s) stole the catalytic converter
from the victim’s vehicle.
A stolen vehicle report was taken at 1237
hours from the 600 block of East Imperial
Avenue. Taken was a 2020 Hyundai Tuscon,
that was later located by LAPD.
A vandalism report was taken at 1414 hours
from the 300 block of Indiana Street. The
suspect keyed/scratched the victim’s vehicle.
A petty theft report was taken at 1357 hours
from the 700 block of South Pacific Coast
Highway. The suspect stole over $600.00
worth of merchandise from the store.
An annoying phone calls report was taken
at 1428 hours from 2200 block of East Maple
Avenue. The suspect has been calling and
threatening the business.
A child custody order violation report was
taken at 1526 hours from the 300 block of
Main Street.
