Obituaries
Geraldine Walker Stephens
Geraldine Walker Stephens,
age 79, passed away peacefully
on Monday, June 10, 2019, in
Torrance, CA surrounded by her
family. She was born July 9, 1939,
in Logan, Utah, to parents Elvin
and Gerda Walker. She was a 1957
graduate of El Segundo High.
She married Gordon Stephens on
November 12, 1960, in Hawthorne,
CA. Gerry was a vibrant spirit
whose joy and generosity touched
many in her family, church, and community
of El Segundo. She served the community
alongside her husband, who served as city
councilman in El Segundo from 1968-1970,
and a two-year term as mayor in 1970.
Gerry is survived by her husband
of 58 years, Gordon; her children,
Gordon (Charmaine) Stephens, Jr.,
and Diana (Greg) Lueck; step-child
Tom (Cindy) Stephens; foster
children Dennis (Connie) Barrett,
and Hank Barrett; her siblings, Pat
(Bruce) Dalton, and Dan (Cindy)
Walker; 28 grandchildren; and
numerous nieces, nephews, greatgrandchildren
and friends. She was
predeceased by her parents; her
sister, Venita; step-son Dan Stephens; foster son,
Glen Barrett. Family and friends are invited to the
memorial service on Saturday, June 15 at 10:00
am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints at 1215 E Mariposa, to celebrate her life.
David L. Durbin
June 2, 1939 to May 5, 2019
David was an El Segundo
High School graduate in 1957.
He played varsity basketball all
4 years, was an active member
on student council and voted
most likely to succeed his senior
year. He graduated with a BS
12/13/63 and an MS 6/12/65 in
Mathematics from Cal State
Hayward. He received his Standard
Teaching Credential 5/8/67.
He taught calculus and other
advanced math courses at U.C.
Berkeley extension, Cal State
Hayward and various colleges
in the Bay area for 50 years. In
2017, he attended his 60th high
school class reunion. David will
be most remembered for his
wit, perseverance and unerring
devotion to his family, friends
and students. •
