Foundation executive board members. After the Board took action in the acceptance of gifts to the District, including $3,000 from the Center Street PTA, they passed a resolution in support of amendments to state Assembly Bill 306, which will ensure that active duty military members, including activated military reservists, are able to choose which public school districts to send their children to regardless of the district in which they reside. Discussion ensued about the effect AB 306 would have on District enrollment because of the proximity of the Los Angeles Air Force base. Concerns were raised by Vice-President Jim Garza, saying he had issues with the way the bill is currently written, and the possible usurping of District authority. Garza also mentioned handyman BILL’S HOME & APARTMENT MAINTENANCE CONTRACTOR QUALITY at Handyman Prices. Superintendent Melissa Moore noted that “the Board of Education’s support of AB 306 demonstrates the District’s collective support of active duty military families.” She wrote that if the bill is passed, it “would provide the necessary leverage for active military families to be released from their resident school district and be approved to attend a school district of choice.” The Board next approved a resolution designating May 4 thru May 8 as certificated school employee week, and followed up with their approval for the summer reading lists for Middle School and High School students.
