School Board featured a final state-of-the
school address for 2017-18 and a deep-dive
into the El Segundo Unified School District’s

platform. At the start of the 100-minute,
the Board members enjoyed a brief musical
routine performed by some of the El Segundo
High School cast members of the upcoming
production “Legally Blonde, the Musical” that
will open April 19.
After student representative to the Board
Jake Nichols made his presentation, followed
by remarks from Ed! Foundation CEO Carol
Pirsztuk about upcoming events, the Board
heard the state-of-the-school presentation
helmed by Eagles’ Nest Preschool Director
Guadalupe Grijalva.
Grijalva detailed what she termed the “great
response to our parent survey this year,” as well
as the strides being made to increase instructor
in-service opportunities and ramp up student
“fun experiences and learning opportunities.”
She spoke about an issue that arose in September
2017, in which a three-year-old wandered
off the preschool playground unaccompanied.
She noted that while the situation could have
resulted in the Eagles’ Nest having its license
put on probation, subsequent security improvements
were made and the initial fine for the
