The Jewelry Source: (Platinum Winner)
From the humble beginnings of an 84 square
foot retail store on Grand Avenue (photo), to
the multi-frontage prime site it now occupies
on Main Street, The Jewelry Source has grown
with and embodies all that is El Segundo.
Brenda Newman, daughter of an El Segundo
firefighter and local Mary Kay consultant
(ESUSD alumna), founded her quintessential
‘mom and pop’-concept store 34 years ago
with retired business partner Roanne Mahony,
also a graduate of ESUSD schools. Boasting
four GIA gemologists onsite at any one
time, plus two in-house jewelers, the level
of expertise in this independent retail store is
second-to-none. However, Ms Newman knows
that the key to her success lies elsewhere – in
the age-old attention to customer service...
The exceptional height of dedication to her
clients is what Ms Newman believes to be
“Good, better, best. Never let it rest. ‘Til your good is better and your better is best.”

an integral part of El Segundo’s community
with contributions to most local fundraisers
including the El Segundo Ed! Foundation
and a significant biennial fundraiser for the
Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Ms
Newman herself currently serves on various
local boards such as the Ed! Foundation,
ESMoA and the El Segundo Chamber of
Commerce and is the city’s Vice-Chair of
the Planning Commission. •
