TORRANCE TRIBUNE November 20, 2014 Page 9 One Man’s Opinion Another Man’s Opinion Quo Vadis (Where Are You Going?) Democrats Need to Do More By Gerald Chong Than Simply Engage Voters Last week, this column compared the results of the election to the awakening of a drunk from a long and disastrous binge. Six years of hazy memories of unbridled spending, unlimited debt, minimal economic growth, world’s highest corporate tax rates, a spider web of paralyzing regulations, free food, 99 weeks of unemployment compensation, free phones, unrestricted abortions, failing government run healthcare, $3 trillion in newly printed money, 92 million unemployed, growing income/gender/racial divides, uncontrolled national borders, inept administrators managing bloated bureaucracies, and uneven and failed foreign policies. This binge won President Obama the title of the “Worst President Since WWII,” and the “7th Worst President Of All Time.” A sobering America now recognizes that by a 27-65 margin the country had been headed in the wrong direction. To reverse course, America has selected Republicans to run both houses of Congress and to control both the governorship and both houses in 23 states. Among governors, Republicans now outnumber Democrats by a 31-17. The binge is over, Alcoholics Anonymous has won. With a vow of renewed sobriety, where will America go? First, it will not renew the Leftist Agenda of the binge. It will not elect Obama’s fellow Saul Alinsky acolyte, Hillary Clinton, because America remembers that before Obamacare (opposed by 38-51 margin) there was Hillarycare. The Bobbsey Twins share their belief that the private sector does not create jobs; neither has managed a state; neither has run a business; both bungled Benghazi; By Cristian Vasquez Last week Politico.com posted an article where a reporter John Shinkle interviewed Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. In her conversation with Shinkle, the congresswoman made two statements that I want to address. First of all, Pelosi made the claim that the Democratic Party’s message is fine and that her colleagues in blue need to simply better engage voters. I have to disagree with the Congresswoman with that statement. While I will accept that our country’s voter turnout is abysmal, getting people to simply vote is not the proper solution. I’m sure we can debate all day over what is more dangerous: an unengaged electorate or a fanatical electorate that will simply vote based on party lines. My honest opinion is that they are both just as reckless and they hurt elections more than they help. So Congresswoman Pelosi’s suggestion that Democrats need to get more people out to vote is only going to add to the problem. Rather, the Democrats should be unified in their platform as a party and better deliver that message. It is difficult to say why those apathetic voters didn’t turn out to the polls but we do know based on the election results that the middleof the-road voter leaned a bit more to the right. Maybe if the Democratic Party did a better job at developing, packaging and presenting its ideas to the voters, the outcome could have been different. The Republicans certainly did a good job at bashing the Democrats through the uses of some facts, a bit of fact-distortion and in some cases by using flat out lies. Yet, the Democrats were so unorganized that the right’s strategy worked. Instead of worrying about a larger number of voters making it to the polls on election night just for the sake of voting, The second thing that the congresswoman said, which I actually have to agree with is that the latest election results was not a wave of approval for Republicans. What we saw was the normal voting behavior of Americans in which after several years the political pendulum swings in the other direction. In 2008 Americans were frustrated with President Bush and the Republican Party so the vote went to Democrats. That did not represent a massive shift in American political ideology; it simply was the middle-of-the-road voters’ reluctance to continue following one party for four more years. After eight years of having the Democrats in the White House, the voters have shifted in the other direction. So in this instance the congresswoman is right; the Democrats lost the election, but the American electorate is not all of a sudden filled with right-wing ideologues. Voters are simply giving the other party a chance. This is the natural flow of the American electorate. Congresswoman Pelosi and the Democrats need to focus more on developing a vision for American that caters to the entire country and not just fanatical liberals. Furthermore, they should stop getting into irrational shouting matches with the right-wing portion of Washington. The hardcore GOP voters will never vote Democrat much like the die-hard Democratic voters will not vote for the GOP. Huge shifts in the electorate rarely happen and it certainly did not occur during the last election. The Democrats simply lost and will likely recover in eight years. • and both believe in a social engineering model run by Washington elitists. Neither will acknowledge the dirty little secret that Leftists need a divided America to survive. They depend on the continuing existence of splintered groups with individual agendas they can exploit with social engineering for financial and political gain, since a truly united America would spell its doom. Quo Vadis? We will select a new leader in 2016 with governing experience in managing large and diverse states, each focusing on a subset of skills America deems crucial. In no particular order, there is Texas’ Rick Perry, who has directed the fastest growing and prosperous state in the country. There is Florida’s Jeb Bush, with strengths in education and immigration. There is Massachusetts’ Mitt Romney, with unrivaled success in private sector growth. There is Wisconsin’s Scott Walker, who was able to reconcile union demands with the best interests of his state. All of them are centrists who will unite rather than divide the core of the political spectrum. All believe in the constitutionally assigned roles of each branch of government; believe in individual rights and responsibilities; have proven skills and experience in maximizing the benefit to the greater good rather than succumbing to the temptations of social engineering. In short, they’re good at herding cats. So Brothers and sisters in sobriety, clap your hands, bang your drums, and beat your tambourines. Cross your index fingers to ward off the evil temptations of the sauce since we’ve still got our heads swathed in wet towels to recover from the effects of the binge. • Visit us online: www.heraldpublications.com dba@heraldpublications.com public notices legalnotices@heraldpublications.com Fictitious Business Name Statement 2014293478 The following person(s) is (are) doing business as 1) RAD ENGINEERING, 2541 W. 237TH STREET, UNIT C, TORRANCE, CA, 90505, LOS ANGELES COUNTY. 2) RAD ENGINEERING CO., 4001 INGLEWOOD AVE., STE 101-750, REDONDO BEACH, CA 90278.
