Councilman Mike Griffiths was honored to share his fundraising night with one of Torrance’s treasures, Ken Miller. Ken’s son, Jim said, “I want to thank Mike Griffiths and everyone who pitched in to put this thing together, because this is a very nice affair. Gosh, it is 93 years tomorrow, and most of you know my dad started out just two blocks from here – he was actually born at the El Prado apartments – 2 blocks from here – and in 93 years he only made it two blocks. He loves this place [Torrance] and loves the people in this town and his connection and remembering every square foot of this town and what has happened there. Well, this is a wonderful affair, and primarily we are here for Mike Griffiths who is turning out to be a terrific councilman. 93 years is a long time to be in Torrance and it is wonderful to combine these two great events - and nice to have people here for my dad too, for his 93rd birthday.” • Former Mayor Ken Miller and Councilman Mike Griffiths.
