Being a political science major it seemed to be the law of attraction that directed me to have JP as a professor. After having attending his classes his students were provided academic and professional guidance that I have not seen matched by any professor or administrator before or after being acquainted with him. At the conclusion of one of his lectures I approached him and we spoke about my aspirations. I can honestly say that without his guidance I would be lost in the confusion we call Higher Education. We spoke of how to realizing my incentives. In contrast to most other educators of mine in the past, he spent the time to understand who I was. He lead me to build my, as JP says, “innerentrepreneur.” JP guidance allowed me the opportunity to build the neighborhood coalition, New Generation New Mindset – Nueva Generación Nueva Mentalidad (NGNM). This type of mentorship towards how people work to promote themselves in a professional manner, within both academia and the workforce, is a concept completely foreign to me until that time. A person needs guidance in order to reach a particular path in an efficient manner. Otherwise, you could compare the same situation without that guidance to hiking at night with no flashlight. You might eventually reach the destination, you might not. – Julian Makara, NGNM President Thanks Former Teacher As a former student of the Dr. John Paul Tabakian I would love to tell you about how he has influenced my life. He is one of the hardest working professors that I know. He is so passionate about teaching students that he is the only professor I know that created a website dedicated to his coursework and his students so that they can grab as much information as needed for his course. My goal is to be a Medical Doctor, I got to a point where I didn’t know if it was the right path for me to take. I asked him for some counseling advice. He took the time from his busy schedule to buy me dinner and talk about me and possible ways to confront my situation. He suggested I get into a hospital setting and see if I would love it. I currently volunteer at two hospitals, I needed a reference from a person who knew me well, and I asked Dr. Tabakian to give me reference letters for the hospitals. From volunteering at the hospitals I learned that my passion is helping people and taking care of their needs, I owe that passion in part to Dr. Tabakian for his advice. It has been years since I took his class and when I need him he is there for me ready to hear my problems and suggest solutions to them.  – Juan Loza Road Rejuvenation Throughout the heart of Torrance remarkable history, her personality has always had abundant reflections of charm and quaintness emulating as a photo perfect town framed into the pristine presentation of a glossy paged calendar.   It is without exaggeration that Torrance is selected by senior citizens, such as my husband Chuck and myself as the choice place to live.  However, Torrance’s blue ribbon conceptual demeanor was flawed by streets of terminal deterioration; some of the residential streets such as Sartori Street are so rough to ride upon that avid bicycle riders such as my husband Chuck and myself are forced to ride on the sidewalks.  Aurelio Mattucci a prominent real estate broker vigilant to the good interests for Torrance has for years taken active issue to encourage the resurfacing of our deteriorated streets some of which have been neglected for Letters Please join Mayor Frank Scotto and former Mayors Dee Hardison and Ken Miller by voting for Kurt to ensure he remains as our City Councilman promoting efficient, effective and accountable government.
