The Eagles finished with 26 wins, which was the most in the Southern Section. The Eagles won the Costa Mesa Tournament by defeating Northwood, Costa Mesa and Segerstrom and hosted the 46th Annual Henry Stuart Water Polo Tournament and placed third in a tournament that featured nine teams ranked in the CIF. The second ranked Eagles split games with Santa Monica and wound up being the No. 2 team in the Ocean League based on a coin flip. The Eagles drew Cerritos in the first round and defeated the Dons, 13-9. In the quarterfinals, they upended Hoover (Glendale) 13-5 to advance to the semi-final matchup against Righetti at Camarillo high school. The Eagles made it a game against the YOUR defending CIF champions but fell 12-5 to the AD eventual champions. Leading the Eagles were Justin Knoll, Nick HERE Paz, Lukas Frerichs, Joe Doucette, Matt Marak, Kyle Crist, Kelly Reynolds and Kyle Parker. Girls’ Volleyball The girls’ volleyball team went 16-9 overall and placed second in the Ocean League. After staring the season 3-0, the Lady Eagles dropped three in a row. The team would play well throughout the season by going 5-7 against playoff teams. The 16 wins was the most since the 2006 team’s 24 win season. The Eagles played host to Rialto in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA playoffs. Senior outside hitter Taylor Amaral had 13 kills, 12 digs and two aces as the Eagles won in straight sets 25-11, 25-13, 26-24. Raquel Hewitt had eight kills and three aces, Maddie Kurke had six kills and Alyssa Pearson added four kills for El Segundo. The Eagles faced La Serna, the Del Rio League champions, in the second round on the road but fell in four sets 25-14, 23-25, 25-16, 25-17. The Eagles ended with their best record in nine years.. Cross Country The defending Ocean League champion boys’ team finished just short in their attempt to repeat, finishing second to Beverly Hills, 36-45. However, senior Gavin Glynn ran a flawless race, setting a course record with a time of 16:04 to beat his rival, Santa Monica’s Lucas Jackson, by 23 seconds. Shane Mahon finished fifth for El Segundo with a time of 17:20 while Garrett Rifkin finished seventh (17:38) and Pierce Nebel finished ninth (17:40). The El Segundo girls cross country team ran a near-perfect race, as all of its top five runners finished in the top 10 overall in the Ocean League Finals. The Eagles edged out second-place Santa Monica 25-36 to claim the title. Brianna Harmon and Nicolette Fulcomer finished second and third overall with times of 20:36 and 20:49, respectively, to pace the Eagles. Grace Hoffman finished fifth (20:49), Gabriella Lee finished seventh (21:59) and Genevieve Johnson finished eighth (22:06). Glynn outran 128 other runners and won his race in 15:07 in the CIF-SS Division IV prelims. The Eagles as a team finished seventh overall in their heat and qualified for the CIF Finals. In the CIF finals Glynn placed fifth overall out of over 100 runners while the team placed a respectable eighth out of 16 teams. He qualified for the CIF state meet and medaled by finishing eighth overall and just four seconds out of fourth place.
