What Do You Want For
Christmas?
I ask my ol’ lady about this time of the year
what she would like for a gift knowing full
well that her standard reply will be “nothing”.
Most of us Americans are so blessed
with material things that we really truly
“need nothing”. All of our basic needs are
taken care of. We have food and cold ones
in both refrigerators, one in the kitchen and
one in our man caves. We have closets full
of golf shirts, tee shirts and dress shirts. We
have cars to park in our garages, driveways
or crowded streets. Most of
us have a roof over our heads.
So, what is it that we want for
Christmas? We have heard the
old lines, “It’s better to give than
to receive.”, “It’s the thought that
counts.”, “Give from the heart”;
all of those are great. There is
a deep feeling inside of us that
motivates us to give to others
out of our love for them. We want them to
be happy. We want to give to show that we
care for them. So, what would an old man
who tries to write a random column want
this season? I really would like more time
to relax and have a cold one once in a while.
I look forward to that gift being opened on
June 15th, 2018. That is the day that I will
close the door to my classroom for the final
time. Only 116 days left to teach, but who
is counting? I just read where over 10,000
baby boomers are retiring every day now in
America. It certainly would be nice to be
one of them. My life will change, but one
thing won’t change. My Christian faith will
continue to motivate me to love and share
my faith with others. The greatest gift that
I can share with others is the truth found in
God’s Word. The truth is that Jesus came to
earth in a manger 2,000 years ago to save the
world. Those who believe have life, eternal
life. That gift is much better than a 100” wide
screen HD TV. Like always, just chill, enjoy
a cool drink and know that God loves you. •
