Obituaries Every day in the Daily Breeze we read the latest news and then we turn to the next page and it hits us right in the face. We are reminded of our mortality. We see all of the South Bay people who have passed away during the past week. We read their obituary. The write ups tell us a little about a person’s life. Quite a few of these long time residents have migrated from the Midwest. They came to sunny Southern California for aircraft jobs. Later, they came for aerospace jobs. They settled here and raised their families. They had a good life. Death seems so final. You are alive one day and the next you’re gone. Recently, I attended a memorial service for a Christian friend who was 99 years and 8 months old. He didn’t quite make the century mark. It is my belief that the death of a Christian is a homecoming. Through faith in the risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, a Christian is given eternal life in heaven. The best part of all, I’m not saved by how I do down here. I’m saved through faith, even that is given to me by God. I don’t anticipate being “written up” soon, but it sure is nice knowing that won’t the last page of my life. Be sure to read the comics on the next newspaper page it’s a little more fun. Hawthorne vs Torrance With the recent explosion at the Exxon/Mobil plant in Torrance, I thought of another comparison between Hawthorne and Torrance. They are in the business of keeping our gas guzzling, global warming vehicles going by producing carbon-producing fuel. In Hawthorne, over at Tesla, engineers are designing electric cars that emit no smog. Are we leading the way, or what? Water Restriction Guidelines Yes, we did have a light rain storm move through this past Sunday, but we are very much still in a severe drought. We need to conserve water. Here are the restriction guidelines that the City Council of Hawthorne has voted upon regarding residential water use: “In response to the ongoing severe drought, the State Water Resources Control Board approved an emergency regulation to ensure water agencies, their customers and state residents increase water conservation in urban settings. With this regulation, all Californians will be expected to stop: washing down driveways and sidewalks; watering of outdoor landscapes that cause excess runoff; using a hose to wash a motor vehicle, unless the hose is fitted with a shut-off nozzle, and using potable water in a fountain or decorative water feature, unless the water is recirculated.” Outside watering of lawns and gardens can take up to 70 or 80% of our home water use. A lot people are looking to install drought resistant landscapes in the yards. There are rebates available if you install artificial turf. Water is a precious commodity, let’s all do our part to conserve. • Classifieds The deadline for Classified Ad submission and payment is Noon on Tuesday to appear in Thursday’s paper.
