Christmas Characters
(Part 2)
This year the Grinch has been
replaced by the Corona who stole
Christmas. So much of the fun stuff
that we used to do to celebrate
Christmas back in the pre-V day
has been stolen away by “The Virus that stole
Christmas”. We all have felt like a Grinch
sometime in our lives. We just don’t feel
like celebrating when irritating relatives come
over to spend “family time” together with us.
We really don’t like the pressure of finding
the perfect gift for our ol’ ladies when they
have everything they could ever want already.
We are sick and tired of turning on our car
radios and hearing Bing sing “It’s beginning
to look like Christmas” on every one of our
preset stations. Americans make one holiday
into a two month shopping spree with all of
us supposedly in the “giving spirit” mode.
Santa and the Grinch really don’t have much
to do with the birth of a Savior, who has come
to take away all of that Xmas anxiety. Last
week we talked about some of the muddy,
low down characters like donkeys and herdsmen.
The young lady named Mary, who was
chosen by God to give birth to Jesus, was as
ordinary as any teenage girl. How would you
feel if some angel appeared to tell
you that you were to be pregnant
before you “knew” a man? How
would you feel knowing that the
baby inside of you was going to
be the Savior of the world? Mary
was a sinner just like me and you.
She was born into this sinful world.
Jesus was without sin. He was both
100% man and 100% God. Mary
being impregnated by the Holy
Spirit. How might you ask could this be? The
incarnation of our Lord is a life saving miracle
for us all. God became man so that we could
live eternally. Wow! This is pretty heavy, deep
stuff. I like to keep things simple. God sent
his only Son to live, die and arise again for
us. That is the greatest gift we could ever
receive. That is what Christmas is, the birth
of a Savior. Don’t be anxious about all of this
secular Christmas, virus, politically correct
crap that is going on all around us. Rejoice,
relax, be happy, have a cold one, celebrate,
enjoy the happy times social distancing, and
remember that Jesus came because God loves
us much more than we can imagine. We can
have peace during all of this mess. Peace out
my friends and loyal readers. God has our
back. Now, if I can only find an appropriate
gift to give to my lovely wife, things would
be good.
