Be a Light
All I hear is disagreement, arguments,
accusations, anger and hate.
Contrast that with what the Bible
says the fruit of the Spirit is: “But
the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;
against such things there is no law”. Those
verses are found in Galatians 5:22-23. Martin
Luther taught that there are two kingdoms, a
spiritual kingdom and a temporal or worldly
kingdom. When we put our trust or faith in
worldly or secular things then many times
we are disappointed. But, if we believe that
there is a God who is all-powerful and all
knowing, we can put our trust in Him who
never fails us. God’s Word is the truth and
it saves us. We read in Matthew 6: 19-21:
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on
earth, where moth and rust destroy and where
thieves break in and steal, but lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither
moth nor rust destroys and where thieves
do not break in and steal. For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
So, are we to totally shut ourselves off from
the world? No, we are to be in the world
but not of the world. We are called to go
out there and be the lights of the world. We
are to bring the love and joy that is ours in
Christ to others. People need us now more
than ever. People are depressed, upset, in a
daze, despondent, frustrated, mad as hell, and
really don’t know what to expect next. We
can be that listener. We can be that friend.
We can be that steady influence when they
are ready to go off the deep end. If our feet
are planted steady on a strong foundation,
storms and viruses and elections can beat
us down but we can stay upright.
Writing this ramble of run together
rudimentary rants is therapy for
me. I hope that by reading this
junk you might find your footing
even if you feel foolish reading my
want-to-be silly stuff. How can
you use your God given talents and
abilities to help someone today?
Do you know a person who could
use a cold one? Do you need a
cold one? I always need a cold one. I need
to remind myself who I am. I need to tell
myself that I’m loved not because I deserve it,
but because of what my Savior has done for
me. If you are not feeling it today, if things
are really getting you down, get up, remind
yourself you’re loved, you are special and
be that light, lend an ear, lift someone else
up, relax, have a cold one and enjoy living
on solid ground. Just don’t have too many,
you might fall and hurt yourself. Loyal
readers, thanks for lifting me up, I need you
all, all 32 of you.
We Love Our Veterans
How can we not be thankful for our veterans
this Veterans Day week? If we did not
have a military in the past then we wouldn’t
be a nation today. We need a strong defense
against our enemies. Shall we “defund” our
military and our police? Shall we trust that
worldly dictators and communist leaders
wouldn’t want to take control of this most
powerful nation? The men and women who
have given of themselves to serve us and
defend our freedoms need our respect and
our love. The blood that has been shed to
preserve our nation should not be shoved
aside. Everyone who enjoys living here
in peace should forever be indebted to our
veterans. To all you vets out there, Have a
Cold One for all of us!
