Septeto Acarey at
the Rock-It Nightclub
All the way from Peru, Salsa group Septeto
Acarey is making a stop here in Hawthorne
on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Rock-It Nightclub.
This year alone, the group is nominated for
two Latin Grammys—Best Tropical Album
(for La Llave Del Son) and Best Tropical
Song (for “El Afortunado”). As the music
industry is in the midst of a second “Latin
boom” this century, Latin groups of various
genres such as Salsa, Bachata and Reggaeton
are influencing mainstream pop and dance
music in the U.S substantially. Don’t miss out
on getting to see this internationally-known
group perform live in Hawthorne before they
potentially win a couple of Grammys just a
few days later. For more information, call
(310) 849-6169.

Dulce’s Thoughts!
The Perfect Season for Teens
to Have a Job in Hawthorne
Right now is a great time for teens to
consider applying for seasonal jobs. As the
busy holiday season approaches, the food and
retail industries have no choice but to expand
their teams. Businesses like these often hire
students because they are willing to work
part-time. The experience that teens can obtain
from seasonal work is extremely beneficial
for future job prospects. Having a job at a
young age teaches responsibility. For example,
a teenager can learn time management and
how to work efficiently. In my opinion, the
most valuable skill that a teenager can learn
through work experience is how to manage
their money. Many teens are excited at the
thought of getting their first paycheck (I know
this feeling firsthand). Saving and spending
their earnings wisely, however, is no easy task.
If you are a teen, take advantage of every
opportunity you have to build your resume.
Prior work experience can only add to your
value as an adult in the workforce. To search
for openings, visit job-posting sites such as
LinkedIn and Indeed.com. •

Good News For A Change
There are two sides to every story,
two ways to skin a cat, two sides to
every coin, and many ways to look
at life. Last week I dumped a bunch of
negatives on you all. Bad stuff happens. As
you are well aware, the bad stuff aint going
away soon. I’ve been accused of being
grumpy as in being an old, grumpy, white
geezer. So today, I will do my best to write
only about good stuff. It might be tough
but I will do my best to be positive for a
change. Let’s try some cliques with a twist
on how to live a more positive life. Here we
go: “If you can’t say nutin’ nice, then don’t
say nutin”. “When life throws you a lime,
make limeade”. God gave you one mouth
but two ears so listen twice as much as you
blab. Happy ol’ lady, happy life. An apple
a day, no cavities your dentist will say. If
a train is coming, step off the track. If your
beer mug is half empty, then it’s still half full.
Look at life from the positive, stop being so
grumpy. Wake up, relax and smell
the coffee, or have a cold one if you
prefer. Don’t let the world’s troubles
drag you down. Choose to live life
happy! (Now can I go back to being
an old, grumpy, white geezer?)
Veterans Day
There are many reasons why we choose a
certain career and pursue our dreams. The
men and women who join our military have
different reasons for joining. They may
not have even been thinking of serving our
country. It may have been just a good way
to get training for a future job. It may have
been to get away from the house or their
small town to see the world. It may simply
be for the lack of employment. Whatever
the reason, we still can be thankful to all the
men and women who have served us through
their military service. Yes, we honor these
brave veterans this coming Monday. We
remember them for what they have given
to us, freedom and that is pretty much the
most important liberty we can have. Thank
a vet this weekend.
