1DayLA and The Freedom Experience
Welcome Back to School Event
1DayLA, a movement that has united communities across Southern California through philanthropy, has selected Woodworth-Monroe TK-8 and Morningside High School for a beautification project. The beautification project will consist of planting and removing plants, shrubs
and decorating with mulch or bark at each location. The work will be conducted by volunteers, and we are asking students, parents and families who would like to be a part of this amazing event to arrive at Woodworth-Monroe between 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or Morningside
High School from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on July 24, 2021. For those who register and pay a $29.00 registration fee, 1DayLA is giving all registered volunteers a ticket to attend a SoFi Concert, The Freedom Experience, with special guest appearances from Justin Bieber,
Chance the Rapper, Tori Kelly and more. To register as a volunteer, please click here. https://conta.cc/3enWlcn. Photos courtesy Inglewood Unified School District.
Film Review from page 2
Morgan Rojas
close, personal friend and that’s what makes
this documentary so hard-hitting and culturally
important. In one of the film’s earlier
scenes, Bourdain talks openly about dying. In
his signature style of cheeky humor, he tells
a colleague that thinking about his death is
“therapeutic.” Retroactively, though, it’s clear
that he was only half-joking. Roadrunner
offers a glimpse into the inner thoughts of
Bourdain himself and while it has a somber
through line, there is optimism and peace
sprinkled throughout.
And man, does it feel good to see him on
the TV screen again.

Seniors from page 3
Listen to your body: Whatever activity
you decide to do to stay physically active,
start slow and increase length or intensity as
you build endurance. Any movement is better
than no movement, so be proud of your efforts.
Listen to your body and when you need
to rest or take a break, do what feels right.
Research senior programs: Fitness programs
focused on the needs of older adults
help position you for success while also
connecting you in community or virtually
with likeminded people. SilverSneakers is
a national fitness membership program that
offers fitness classes designed for seniors at
over 15,000 locations nationwide including
a FLEX network outside of a traditional fitness
center such as parks, medical centers
and community centers.
Check virtual options: Not everyone is
comfortable with indoor fitness, so consider
online alternatives. Members have access to
more than 13,000 instructor-led live classes
each month as well as over 200 classes in
our On-Demand library.
Check eligibility: Some health plans offer
options for low-cost or no-cost fitness
programs. For example, SilverSneakers is
available at no cost for adults 65 and older
through select Medicare plans. Visit silversneakers.
com to verify eligibility.
“Improving health and combating social
isolation and loneliness are significant benefits
of senior fitness, the measurable reduction
in health care costs can’t be ignored,” said
Logue. “There are a variety of programs to
suit all interests, abilities and lifestyles to help
seniors find safe, enjoyable and convenient
ways to get moving today.” •
