LA Dodgers Foundation Launches Science of Baseball
Home Kits to Address Pandemic Learning Loss
The Baseball Home Kit curriculum is designed for third through eighth graders, utilizing baseball examples to improve student interest and performance in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). To support the demands on teachers with distance learning
and the need to provide STEM resources, LADF and Science of Sport are providing monthly teacher trainings and classroom visits, “Dugout Chats,” from the Dodgers’ baseball operations team focused on careers in STEM. Thank you for supporting our kids. Photo courtesy LADF.

Simple
Nothing seems to be simple these
days. This afternoon I had my
second vaccine shot and dummy me
posted a picture of me waiting my
prescribed 15 minutes. I commented
on the post that “I hope these shots
don’t kill me”. Wow! What a wide variety of
responses from my friends or whoever they
are that has nothing better to do but sit and
look at their phones. One person posted that I
had just endorsed abortion since some of the
vaccines use fetal tissues. Others reassured
me that the side affects aren’t too bad, just
a sick feeling for a day or two. It seems like
everyone is different and everyone reacts to
this stuff differently. Now, I have my completed
“vaccine card” or Vac-passport. I’m supposed
to guard it with my life. It may be required
that I show it before hopping on an airplane,
or going on a cruise, or even attending a
baseball game. Some businesses may not let
me in the door unless I have proof of being
“vaccied”. Do we even know how long this
shot is good for? Do we even know it protects
us? Will we have to do this annually, like
the flu shot? Now, that I have my card, am I
good to go and not wear a mask? Can I be a
super duper spreader still? Will my
old lady get close to me now? She
only has been shot once, so is she
half covered? No worries, I have a
good life insurance policy, so my
OL is good whether I survive or not.
So, why is it all so complicated?
Why can’t we use the old KISS
strategy, Keep It Simple Stupid?
Why sweat the little things? I love
my wife. I love my family. I try to
love and understand those around me that may
not be just like me. God loves me. I like to
have a cold one to get me through the rough
places. Why do we mess this simple life up
with so much crap? We worry and fret over
the small junk and forget about the biggies. We
complicate our faith the same way. We think
we have to add to it, or do a lot a goody good
stuff to get on God’s good side. God sees us
as good because Christ is good. He suffered
and died for us. He overcame death. We are
forgiven and saved, not by what we did or do,
but because of what Jesus did on Good Friday
and Easter. We come to faith like a little child,
keeping that simple faith. With this faith, this
life is made simple. I will be telling you to
keep it simple until I’m blue in the face: God
loves you, relax, and have a cold one. Love
your family and neighbors simply because of
the love you have received. Life is simple
