Inglewood Up for Most
Business-Friendly City Award
Inglewood is among three finalists for
the Most Business-Friendly City award for
2018 presented annually by the Los Angeles
Economic Development Corporation. The cities
of Inglewood, Rosemead and Whittier are
finalists for the population 50,000-and-over
category. The winner will be announced Nov.
8 at the Eddy Awards ceremony.
A panel of judges selected the finalists
based on economic development efforts
within the cities and commitment to creating
good jobs, the LAEDC said in a release.
Competitive tax rates and fees for businesses
and economic incentives for attracting and
retaining companies were also considered.
“The City of Inglewood creates a business
friendly environment because of high
prioritization of the Mayor and City Council to
establish an attentive, responsive and accessible
relationship with entities choosing to do
business in the city,” the LAEDC said in
an announcement. “City staff responds with
accessible and eager interface with the business
community both at their service counters
and in the field. Residents wholeheartedly
support new development and went to the
polls to endorse the Stadium Initiative; and
at the same time, continue to celebrate timehonored
small businesses in Inglewood with
loyal patronage.”
American Airlines also will be recognized
for its contribution to employment and the
region’s economy. The airlines directly employers
nearly 7,000 people in the county
and the carrier has invested $1.6 billion to
modernize Terminals 4 and 5 at Los Angeles
International Airport.

Hawthorne Green Business Program
The City of Hawthorne recently received
a grant to fund a green business certification
program. This program will help businesses
identify ways to become more environmentally
sustainable with the goal of achieving
certification as a Hawthorne Green Business.
This may include measures such as energy efficiency,
waste reduction, water savings, and a
number of other practices to help your business
increase its sustainability and save money!
The South Bay Cities Council of Governments/
South Bay Environmental Services
Center (SBCCOG/SBESC) and its staff will
be doing many of the assessments, site visits
and administration for this program. Please
allow them to discuss this program with you
and consider participating in this important
program. The Green Business program will
not only help your business save resources
and reduce costs, but also helps the City as
a whole with its efforts to reduce its environmental
footprint.
For further questions, contact a SBCCOG
staff member at (310) 371-7222 or grace@

News for the City of Good

Museum that is located at Jim Thorpe

to the museum there will be someone there to
answer questions.
Huber Happenings?
I’m considering a change of names for this
“whatever” thing I write each week. I try to talk
about Hawthorne as much as I can. I try to stay
in the loop with what is going on. But, it’s pretty
hard to do so living 300 miles away. How about
a HHH? Huber/Hawthorne Happenings?
I do tend to talk too much about myself,
but some of my 19 readers seem to like
my renderings of what is happening in
my life. I try to relate my happenings
to what you might be thinking or
experiencing. God forbid that I would
become egotistical and boring. I know
I talk too much about having cold ones. I
know you all know that God loves you. I know
you know that my ol’ lady drives me nuts some
times. I know you have heard all of this old crap
too many times. I know you think I’m a fool
for continuing to write this nonsense. So, hang
in there. God willing I will only life another
20 years, then someone else will have to take
this thing over. Life is great! Have a cold one.
More Things Closing
Most of my loyal readers are well informed
residents of the area and probably have heard that
PF Chang’s and McCormicks and Schmick’s is
closing down on Rosecrans in El Segundo. Now,
I hear that Alondra Golf Course is going to be
a regional park. Wow! Things are changing.
Life goes on. We find other places to eat and
to play golf. We may not like change, but that
is life. Nothing really stays the same other than
taxes going up, death and God’s love for us.
